the right position to visit Snaefellsjokull National Park and the west of the peninsula.
There are no easily accessible restaurants and shops, you have to provide all your supplies.
In the hostel, you have a nice functional kitchen, refrigerator, and a small bar to buy drinking and snacks: light beverages, juices, potato chips, and smarties. Small, quiet town along the water near the tip of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It is quite beautiful in the area with sites nearby. The location is great if you are spending two days touring the peninsula. The murals are fun to view but that's about all there is to do in the town itself.

We were trying to find a hotel close to the Snaefellsjokull Nat'l Park. Now that we have been there, we would opt for staying on Olafsvik (with 2 restaurants for dinner) or go to other side of park at Hellnar or Arnarstapi.
Hellissandur didn't have much going on, except Gilbakki Kaffihus is very nice for mid-morning snack, lunch or afternoon break. Very nice people.

I went to climb Snæfellsjökull, a 30 year ambition.
I went to climb Snæfellsjökull, a 30 year ambition. Weather was horid, glad to not be spending the next 300 year as part of a glacier. Lets say it was an exciting day and not for those without experience with Ice weapons.
A very special and unique experience - this place breathes with history, culture and good vibes. When we stayed, there were just a few other guests and we were able to enjoy the spacious "living room" sitting on the couch and chatting through the evening. The room to sleep was very comfortable too with all that we needed.
Special kudos to the host Vitte (I may spell his name wrong) - many thanks for the warm welcome!
This is a fun, characterful and quirky self-catering apartment in a village on the end of the peninsula. Think student house with nothing matching, but it doesn't matter because you chose it and there's books to browse and swap. Take a book to leave there. We had supper in the nearby town of Ólafsvík, as the restaurants in Hellisandur were closed in the low season. The village has amazing street art.
We spent 10 days in Iceland - each night in different place but Cliffside Apartmanet completely exceeded our expectations.
There are no words to describe what we felt after opening the door: living room and kitchen has a soul and add to this comfortable bed and these views...... sea on one site and mountain on the other....
The gramophone made our day and night. We will come back in the summer!
The Staff was super friendly. They were really helpful and they gave us a lot of information about what to see in the area. Our room was clean and cozy and we had a wonderful view. The location of the hotel was just perfect.
The breakfast was very good as well (scrumbled eggs, skyr, selfmade Croissants etc)
All in all we can recommend staying here and we would come back again every time.
I loved everything about this place! The kitchen had more utensils than most people have at home, so many choices of board games, and all the books! Made you feel like you want to stay for a month to discover everything on the shelves! Such a great idea for an apartment! Do not miss a chance to get breakfast served by a real viking in RAM Iceland!
Freezer Hostel has a huge living room, with musical instruments, many books, games, coffee & tea, very warm and inviting, and immediately feels like home!
I even made some music with one of the staff (flute & guitar), met many great people.
This is probably the best (or one of the best) hostels in Iceland.
Beautiful, cute and quaint house. Loved staying here. Very responsive hosts. Would highly recommend! Great location to explore the peninsula. Restaurants in town were all closed for the season but we found restaurants 10 mins away and a grocery store so no problem. Loved the murals in this town also.
The staff, Patryck made sure everything was perfect! His recommendation for a restaurant was perfect and he even made the reservation for us. The breakfast was very fresh and delicious, you could see there was a lot of effort out into it The beds in the hotel where very comfortable.
Great location overlooking the water in the small town of Hellissandur at the tip of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. We did a two day trip along the peninsula from Reykjavik so this was a perfect location for the night. Enjoyed reading a book in the living room and watching the ocean.
Comfortable room, excellent breakfast and exceptionally helpful personnel. Special mention to receptionist Anna who made us fish and chips for dinner and gave us many recommendations to explore the Snæfellsnes Penisula. She even helped us to find the northern lights at night!
I fell in love with this place! The staff gives you a heartwarming welcome and the lobby is a place that makes you feel at home. A cosy place packed with card / board games our children really enjoyed.
My only regret is that I did not stay longer at the Freezer.
This place was beyond expectations. We liked everything. The flat is beautiful and well kept. The view is amazing. We really appreciated the music and the books. Absolutely the best place we have stayed in Iceland.
The first morning we got a breakfast box for each one and it was not very good. The second morning there were more people in the hotel and breakfast was served and each person choose what to eat, much better.
It was our first experience with “no reception” arrival but it worked very well. Email received day of our arrival provided code for entry to hotel and code for room. The rooms were exceptionally clean.
Really nice place with an exceptional view. Perfect location.
Appartement very well equipped and comfortable.
Proximity to Gilbakki Kaffihus one of the best we found on our tour of Iceland
Great location with easy access to the Snæfellsnes national park. Comfortable, nice amenities like chocolates at check in. Excellent and super friendly service from Patrick at the front desk.
Great view. Close to a handful of small towns with restaurants. Very peaceful and beautiful. Parking was right next to the place. Very easy to get in and out.
