tried the recomended restaurants but found them not to my liking
then found a family run restaurant at the end of the piazza and started to enjoy the real food of the place.
as it rained every single day we were there we did not do too much exploring but watching the cloud formation on the mountains surrounding the town was mesmering.
brilliant if you want to just relax, but as the boats run frequent you can move well.

We had only booked to stay 3 nights in Colico in April.
We had only booked to stay 3 nights in Colico in April. Out of season the town is quiet but there are walks and ferry rides to several locations around the lake. We found places to eat. It would be very busy in high season we suspect. Ideal for those who want to see large areas of water with mountain scenery and wildlife. There was a lot of snow on the mountain tops in April.

Colico is great place to stay if You want easily get to different towns on this side of lake Como in different days.
Colico - Chiavenna lets You go to very north, on a train Colico - Lecco You can reach Bellano, Varenna...from Varenna by ferry to Bellagio.
You can hike the mountains near the Colico - even to get to Monte Bassetta to see the alpine cows with bells on their neck, which make unbelievable sound! That feeling! If we could read before we get there that it is possible to buy also the cheese there :D, we would not be afraid to interrupt those cows :)
You can do windserfing, take a bike and go around the city. Evening walks are just great also.
Love this place <3

This is a great town if you want to avoid the tourist masses in the south of Lake Como. There are a number of restaurants in the heart of the town, supermarkets, and great access to the lake (with grass to lie down on!). Tip: visit Val di Mello - ideally not during the weekend (it gets very crowded then!).

Colico is far north of Lake Como, and luckily it hasn't been touched by waves of tourists! It is calm, beautiful and a hidden gem at the foothills of the Italian alps.
Very dog-friendly and people friendly.
Wonderful restaurants and things to do for kids.
We will be back!
Beautifully kept traditional house, spotlessly clean and with very friendly knowledgeable host who’s family has lived in the village for generations. Only 10 minutes walk from beautiful lakeside beach with nice bar, food and kayak hire. 5 mins drive will take you into centre of the small and pleasant town of Colico, with shops, restaurant and local ferry station. The beautiful town of Varena is only 20 mins by car. Amazing views all around the accommodations balconies of mountains and lakes.
Everything was excellent. The checkin process was very easy and smooth. The host was very friendly. This apartment had an excellent view of Lake como and the mountains. There was even some toys to keep our toddler engaged. Parking was right in front of the apartment. The nearest grocery store was about a 10 minute walk. Lake como is also just a 2 minute drive from this place. I would highly recommend this place.
View from the room was absolutely fantastic just as you see in the pictures which is always a surprise.
Breakfast was plentiful again with amazing views from the dining area
The cleanliness of the hotel was second to none the staff worked tirelessly to keep everything clean and tidy
A great host who was warm and welcoming, even making sure that my husband had some gluten free options available him
Great property with everything you could need for a short stay. It was lovely to have 2 balconies and access to the garden at the back. The apartment was only a 5-7 minutes walk to the ferry where we could access the other villages on the lake. Although after visiting the very busy and very touristy towns like Bellagio we were glad to come home to calmness of Colico.
Apartment is on a quiet street at the very end of the old neighborhood of Colico, with traditional homes in various states of renovation-dilapidation. This one has been well-maintained, and has all necessities - including insect screens (important in the evenings). The morning views and birdsong are lovely, and I enjoyed a stroll through the neigborhood.
What a stunning little town. So quiet and no crowds.
Hotel was right at ferry stop and 10 mins walk from train station.
Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast had alot of choices. Staff were very helpful.
We booked at Colico as the rest of the lake was booked out or out of our price range.
Best decision. Still got to see all the poular spots.
The Villa is approximately 1km from Lake Como, the facilities were up to standard, clean sheets and and a big kitchen in your disposal. But the best part is the pool. You take a swim and admire the mountains around you while you are tanning. Would very much recommend it. 😉
location. stunning. up high. off main route. little village with shop right opposite. beautiful views of lake como. great shower and bed. breakfast was great. the host was superb. very friendly and helpful. nearby town of colico was beautiful. great restaurants and walks.
Very good, comfortable hotel. Location was perfect specifically for my trip. There is a ferry which take us to different places on Lake como like Belagio etc., it’s location to nearby village where we can have good restaurants and ferry to other places, this was perfect.
What a fabulous little boutique hotel, absolutely gorgeous décor and furniture, bathroom suite very nice. Breakfast was lovely too, outside if its sunny, in a sweet garden. Colico is a small town so you are near everything, 5 mins walk to the lake edge.
amazing hotel service, all staff were so nice and helpful! They even had a gentleman play live piano during the evening! Undeniably stunning view from the hotel. Overall, definitely worth visiting if you’ looking to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Staff were very friendly, and breakfast excellent. The hotel is conveniently located, a short walk from the lakeside. Colico offered more than we expected, a good place for a stop-over on our journey south.
Perfect location in the heart of Colico with a view to Lake Como. Many restaurants nearby plus hosts offer discount in one of them. Paid parking available nearby apartment.
We had a great room that overlooked Lake Como. It had everything we needed with an amazing view. The Hostess was very welcoming, and breakfast was exceptional both days.
