I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. So make sure you either have a late breakfast or stop in time to get some lunch in! :)))

We were on a pilgrimage to historical Catholic sites. Santa Margherita and St Francesco monastery are outstanding experiences with interesting backstories. Excellent views of the Tuscany landscape from Santa Margherita.

It is a very beautiful medieval city close at the border of Tuscany and Umbria. It is definitely not an easy walk city as there are not so many flat streets. But it is worth it!
From Piazza Garibaldi, you could have a very nice view to Tuscany.
You find few parking lots around the city but from there you need to walk few stairs to actually get in to the city.
The italian ice cream, of course, is unbeatable. I can also recommend Cortona Bistrot. I think I have eaten there one of the best tiramisu.
The city is worth for couple of days' visit but the surroundings are also very nice (e.g. Lake Trasimeno).

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona.
The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona. Cortona is very small, I came in once during a three day stay. Considering that it was 50 euro to drive in to town I would have only came back in for another dinner if I was with a group. Be ready to walk uphill! I walked all the way to the top and then made my way down to eat. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the restaurant I went to but it was tiny with a family feel and the food was incredible

Beautiful, romantic, old place!
Beautiful, romantic, old place! An ideal experience - away from the crowds and chaos of top destinations like Florence, but at the same time providing every element of romantic and beautiful Tuscany and ancient Italy in general!
The hostess, Antonella, was charming and so hospitable. We were upgraded to an apt and so appreciated it. The views of the Tuscan countryside are stunning from her property. Swimming pool is well maintained and pristine. Accommodation inside is immaculate and homely. The breakfast is delicious and generous in quantity. Close to several pretty Tuscan villages and Cortona. Great location. Antonella was friendly and gave helpful tips of sights, local restaurant nearby which was superb.
Highly recommend this for a base in Tuscany.
Family run agriturismo in the heart of Tuscany, just 10 min drive from beautiful city of Cortona. Very good located when you want to visit places like Montalcino, Val’d Orcia, Perrugia, Asisi and many more. The owners and especially Valentina, were more than friendly and very helpful at all the time. Swimming pool there is a great way to cool down during hot days. The apartment was spacious, clean and very well equipped in everything we could need during our stay. Great place to go in small or bigger group.
It is wonderful place where you can spend nice holidays with family. The apartment on the first floor is very nice clean and comfortable, with good equipped kitchen. The house is in rustical style and there is not so hot. There is nice view for Cortona city. Arround the house is many plants with shadow places. There is also big, clean and beautiful swimming pool. It is very good place to see many interesting places in Tuscany. The owners are very frendly. It is lovely place.
Michele and his wife were very nice and super welcoming! The house and the garden are exceptionally clean and well taken care of! The garden is much bigger than it is shown on the pictures and the whole property is fully fenced which is excellent if you are travelling with a dog. The house is also very nice in summer time when it gets really hot in Italy, as it is situated on a mountain it is always a little cooler and there is a fresh wind.
Amazing place, with an old vibe to it that goes with the town and its surroundings. A perl lost in the magic of central Italy. The staff was exceptionally helpful, caring and thoughtful. Totally recommend it if you’re looking for a place central both to Umbria and Tuscany, Cortona, from the top of its promontory is a gem of history and character. Thank you Casa Franci for the amazing experience, we’ll be back.
The Borgo Solamore is a gem! We got a little lost initially, but once we found it and met Alessandra, we fell in love with all of it- she and her son are wonderful people, and the grounds are gorgeous! She is the quintessential host, offering her best suggestions for experiencing Cortona and beyond . We genuinely treasured our time in Cortona at the Borgo Solamore. We hope to visit again one day ❤️
The building was renovated with great perfection.
It’s only a short drive to the historic village Cortona.
Having Dinner at Villa di Piazzano is a unique experience which should not be missed. The chef not only prepares a great dinner, also breakfast is great.
Staff is super friendly and everybody can speak english.
The barista prepares perfect cappuccino.
The location is beautiful, we started the hike from the hotel. Bed was extra comfy and we had an amazing sleep. Breakfast in the garden is a delight with fresh local products and eggs. Very well maintained, helpful staff and awesome evening by the pool with a view to the surrounding mountains and Cortona. Also the area is very quiet for resting.
Sara and her family were incredible hosts. We enjoyed our morning conversations and the delicious breakfast croissants baked by her mother.
The property is in the heart of Cortona and is beautiful 14th century structure restored with modern amenities.
For anyone seeking authentic, Cortona charm, I highly recommend this historic property.
Borgo Il Melone is a charming hotel. We were kindly received, the rooms are spacious and clean, the swimming pool is lovely and the breakfast extensive and delicious! The cozy town of Cortona is a 10-minute drive away and is nice to visit, even if you only stay 1 night like us.
Amazing view from the hotel. Great localization in the city of Cortona. Spa is awesome. Breakfast was very good, and the bar was top (shoutout to Claudio😊). The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Good spot to visit Siena, Perugia and Lago Trasimeno.
Isolina and the rest of the family were so nice and helpful thank you!!!
The suite was very very big for a couple. Everything was clean and comfortable.
The breakfast was excellent in terms of food and atmosphere (best Tiramisu during our trip in Italy).
Fantastic boutique hotel just outside of Cortona. It is a 15 minute walk in to town, but it’s worth it for the views, peace and quiet, and of course the pool! Silvia and the staff also couldn’t have been more accommodating or friendly. We will be back!
Location was spectacular and the best in all Cortona, view is priceless and the breakfast had the best croissants I have ever tasted in Italy, served hot right from the oven, the entire breakfast is lovely and with many options.
Location was right in the middle of the fields of Tuscany - a short drive from Cortona and close to vineyards and other Tuscany towns. Buffet breakfast was wonderful and rooms were charming.
