There are not many places that you can literally live under the volcano hearing it's grunt and groans ,viewing the smoke emitted and the occasional flare of lava from the hotel balcony. However being so off season no tours or restaurants were open, only grocery stores, and the guided hikes or night boats were yet to come out.Self hiking up was limited by very concise caution limits due to previous activity from the volcano and the seismic situation .This was February. However with few tourists you have a distinct feeling of you against nature and the locals have time and inclination to consort with you and seem to enjoy it.Especially since we were stranded 3 extra days by inclement weather which downed the ferries so a caution in this respect.

Stromboli is an island of contrast, some people love it others not so much. For us it is perfect, the locals are friendly and have gotten to know us over our many visits to the island, the Volcano is fascinating to climb and watch as it explodes. Eating dinner either in town or at the Observatorio which looks up to the active craters. During the day relax on the beaches or take a boat trip which is available from several vendors, Recommend Chez Puelo based near Ficogrande beach. Boat rentals also available. Taxis are about but enjoy the walk into town and round the island, explore the side streets, for a small island there is so much to do.
Stromboli is a seasonal island with access limited during the winter period where lots of the tourist areas close, the season runs March-October with the busiest periods coming July-Mid September. Most of there tourists come on day trips from the larger Aeolian islands so aren't there late into the night. Bar Ingrid is great for a local Grenita and La Liberia bar has some mixed events with some great social nightlife at the weekend and a more relaxed experience during weekdays. This is a 2nd home for us and we will always recommend a visit but please treat the locals with the respect that they and the island deserve

Stromboli island is a unique earthy island with small shops and lots of restaurants. We only stayed 1 night. Took a boat tour around the island and took guided hike to view Stromboli eruptions 2 hours before sunset. Hike wasn’t too difficult through stunning scenery and a fair amount of shade. Around 2 hours including stops and guide info. Stopped at viewing platform for 1.5 hours. Sunset stunning. Eruptions so cool.
Recommend booking Observatory Pizza Restaurant (great at atmosphere) on the way down and leaving the group. It’s around 45 minute walk down from restaurant - pitch dark (torches essential) but trails not too bad.
Could have definitely hung out there a little longer, but we had an itinerary planned and moved on

Amazing opportunity to see an active volcano.
Amazing opportunity to see an active volcano. We walked (5hr round trip) to view the eruptions, took an evening boat trip and viewed from the Observatory restaurant - all excellent ways to see the the activity. We loved the narrow streets, friendly locals and delicious food. A peaceful place to visit with the right balance of nature and stunning village with small shops & restaurants. Worth more than a day trip - we stayed 5 nights.

Most travellers go to the island for just one night, just to see the volcano. We always do that, weather permitting but the island is an 'away from it all' destination to chill out. It's a very special place.

It is beyond words, unique island yet to be discovered.by crowds.Be aware of petty criminal staff stealing in the restaurants.
We found out few times they charged us more, it was even printed different on the bill (not hand written) ,
20 euro for a speed boat ride to sea Volcano is soo worth the money.
10 euro for a few minutes drive to port with golf style car is maybe a bit expensive but ride is worth it.
Every member of the staff we encountered was extremely helpful and friendly. They helped us secure a dinner reservation, answered our various questions and when we had to leave for an early morning ferry ride back to Sicily before the breakfast bar opened, they prepared cappuccinos and food for us at 6:30 a.m.
The breakfast bar offered a huge array of food and beverage options. We also liked the location, which is close to the ferry terminal and numerous dining options.
i had an amazing time with Bartolo and his wife, the garden is a little paradise and I felt right at home. Bartolo also runs an island tours company so perfect to check out the Stromboli at night or do a tour of the island. they even invited me to have dinner with them with fresh fished fish and gave me a ride to the harbor when I left. and it’s perfectly located :) special awards to the cute little cat who kept asking for petting :)
Perfect location close to central square & meeting point for volcano hikes. Fantastic views from large communal terrace of the sea and Stromboliccho on one side and Stromboli mountain on other. Characterful traditional room with basic but everything necessary & spotlessly clean. Great communication with attentive host, Guiseppe.
Beautiful garden and nice rooms seeming individual cottages. There is a balcony with a fantastic view of the sea and Strombolichio. Breakfast is served in your own table in front of your room, in the garden. Very beautiful and relaxing. Location is great, 6 minutes to beach and next to all what you need for a great stay.
The location is superb, just in the middle of Stromboli’s village!
The garden is gorgeous, full of flowers and with an amazing view of the volcano!
The breakfast is delicious with homemade marmalades by Pasquale, fresh fruits and orange juice! Antonella and Pasquale are really nice hosts and we totally felt at home!
Beautiful rooms/small houses located in a nice garden with a pool. The staff was very helpful, they even checked us in earlier because we arrived in the morning with the ferry. The breakfast was delicious and varied. The rooms were extremely clean and very cozy. A great stay on this beautiful island
STROMBOLI IS THE UNIQUE ISLAND AMONG THE AEOLIAN ISLANDS ULA FROM THE RECEPTION IS VERY NICE AND KIND. THE ROOM WAS GREAT ALL VERY CLEAN WITH AC TV. 2 MINUTES FROM THE BOAT. THERE WAS A FRIDGE IN THE ROOM AND I WAS PLEASED.... GRAZIE MILLE
Hotel Ossidiana is a perfect place for a short stay in Stromboli. It is very close to the harbour, has nice and clean rooms and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is rich and excellent. I can only recommend this place.
We booked a room as we were going to climb the Stromboli. The owner was very kind and helped us check-in quickly. Breakfast was nice. It was in the center of the island, near shops and meeting points.
Superb breakfast, exceptional staff,Marcella and her help were very friendly and helped us immensely when we were stranded by weather and unable to leave the island.
