The Sardinian capital, Cagliari has a historic old town, busy port and one of the island’s best beaches. The sweeping stretch of sand at Poetto has great summer nightlife, and just inland is Molentargius lagoon, where flamingos nest against the backdrop of the city.
Cagliari is spread over a small hill and the oldest part – Quartiere Castello – lies at the top. There are far-reaching views from Bastion San Remy, its main entrance point. Medieval city walls lead from here to the simple cathedral, and nearby is the 18th-century Palazzo Regio.
By one of the original city gates is the National Archaeological Museum, housing a collection of Phoenician and Roman artifacts from the city’s Tuvixeddu Necropolis. There are also displays of the nuraghic civilization whose former dwellings pepper Sardinia. The most impressive is Su Nuraxi north of Cagliari.
Just outside the walls are remains of a Roman amphitheater, next to the university botanical gardens. Orange tree-lined streets descend the hill towards the seafront where restaurants and bars can be found. Cagliari FC play at Sant’Elia Stadium along the coast and opposite is the Sardinia International Fair, an important conference venue.
Booking.com’s Cagliari accommodations includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs by the train station and cheap guesthouses near Elmas Airport.

A beautiful and interesting city, close to a wonderful beach and port. Public transport works very well and the catering options are very rich. However, it is quite dirty and a lot of street vendors harass tourists.

Cagliari is an old city. It is walkable, even though hilly.
Cagliari is an old city. It is walkable, even though hilly. Most attractions are within walking distance. The weather is temperate. During January, February and March, possibility of rain is high. Archaeological remains dating to Roman times are very interesting, as well as the botanical garden, which is one of the best organised in Europe.

Cagliari offered everything !
Cagliari offered everything ! Great transport facilities, if required. I love to walk, hence i walked to Poetto beach and all surrounding areas very easily.
I found everyone very friendly and welcoming, and ate in many restaurants in the city centre and surrounding areas. All of them were very good, facilities were spotless.
I highly recommend visiting Cagliari, it is a wonderful off season destination especially if you do not enjoy crowds !

Cagliari is an enchanting pearl in the centre of Mediterranean sea. Lots of history attractions, from nuragic age (3000 A.C), to pre-roman, Roman and mediaval times; finishing with the still visible scars of WWII. There is also the presence of serious decent museums and theatres. Amazing weather, increble 10km of sandy beaches, full pf coffe bars, little reaataurants, clubbing happy hours and almost everting for any open air activity and sport. Do not panic if locals are always loud and use to repeat the same thing at least three times :D

Cagliari is a fun city perfect for foodies like us!
Cagliari is a fun city perfect for foodies like us! We literally ate in a different place at every meal and didn't even make a dent on the huge number of restaurants around. We had at least 5 different types of cusine and all types of dietary choices and intolerances are catered for. There's a lot of interesting archeological sights and beautiful churches too. Everything is closed by if you stay in the centre, but definitely need to be at least a little fit as there are a few steep hills to climb. I would definitely recommend a visit to the church of Santo Sepolcro and the crypt of Santa Restituta.
There's a beautiful beach a couples of miles down the road and the city is very well serviced by busses.

It was vibrant with a wide choice range for Restaurants from excellent Pizzas to 4 star. The range of things to explore was surprising - from Gardens to Churches to Museums , Parks and interesting history - one doesn't have to leave the city. It also felt safe and a buzzing place in the evening. There is also access to a great beach in Poetto. We ended up walking a lot because the weather was so good but when in need we used Taxis. We were surprised at the relatively low cost for various items compared to other cities.
We had a fantastic holiday in Cagliari. The guest house II Profumo del Mare is located in a perfect place - right near the Poetto beach. The room was nice and clean with a wonderful sea view from the balcony, very comfortable bed and a big and comfortable bathroom.
Antonio is a fantastic host. He gave us very good recomendations about the points of interst in Cagliari as well as about local restaurants. He even surprised us with a bottle of a nice Sardinian wine. thank you, Antonio!
We stayed in the suite which was absolutely perfect, comfortable bed, couch and super clean. We were delighted to get use of the jacuzzi after all the steps and hills of Cagliari!
Roberta had all the details for us so checking is was simple and straightforward.
The views from the terrace were spectacular and a perfect place for a nice glass of Sardinian wine was the sun goes down.
The Catestello area is a historical quiet beautiful place to stay. Would highly recommend.
The staff was amazing from the moment we checked in. They even helped us with parking our rental van since it was so big. We were celebrating a special occasion and they went out of their way to make sure we felt special! The American Bar made great drinks and had wonderful bartenders, and the wait staff was very friendly. I 100% recommend this hotel to anyone considering a stay in Cagliari and to add it to your list if Cagliari is not in your travel plans!
First of all the art deco liner look of the hotel is wonderful. Its location is beautiful, a natural paradise. Food, the room upgrade, the wonderful chambermaids and waitresses that work so hard and always engaging. It is near Cagliari, Spiaggia di Poetto is an 8km silver sand beach, raked daily, and delightful beach restaurants. It has an excellent quite beach road promenade that can be used for exercise it is regularly patrolled by police.
Very convenient location: 5 minute walk to the train and bus station (for the airport, Poetto Beach, etc). All other tourist sites within walking distance with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. As a solo, female traveller, I always felt safe in the city and area. Simple, basic accommodations but clean and convenient. Includes free drinks (water, juice and snacks in the room) and coffee/tea in the open area. Good wifi.
Ilm Cagliari is a wonderfully quirky little place ideally located between the old town and the beautiful Monte Urpinu park. And Roberto, the host, was great at giving tips and inspirations to make my trip to Sardinia unforgettable The place is super cosy, decorated with paintings and artwork, has a balcony overlooking the town and it is super clean. Oh, and it has a great coffee maker. So all was perfect.
The facilities and the host! It was everything we needed and so clean and comfortable. The host, Valerio went above and beyond to help us with our late check in and he was so informative and helped us plan and execute our itinerary. He made our experience in Cagliari so much better! Thank you so much!! Would definitely stay again if I came back to Sardinia.
Perfect apartment, comfortable and close to Poetto beach and mountains with magnificent sights. Cagliari has well-organized public transportation system, so you can get to the city center quickly by bus. Great place for runners. Juan is very responsive and friendly, it was so nice to meet him. Also he allowed me late check-in and late check-out. Thank you!
I am used to spending one or two nights in Cagliari every time I visit Sardinia. I always choose to stay at Il Villino because it is very nice. The staff is kind, the location is very comfortable, and one can reach the city center on foot or take a bus at the nearby stop. Bars, supermarkets, and restaurants are very close to the B&B.
This hotel is the perfect place for a quick getaway in Cagliari City Centre. It is only eight minutes away by train directly from Elmas airport. Room 15 across the street is simply the best - Double height, comfy dorelan beds, spacious, two big windows and close to everything. Do get comfy shoes though as the city is all uphill.
The stay at Old Town B&B was more than what we asked for! Stefano always looked after guests needs and provided insider info on what to do in Cagliari and Sardinia. Breakfast is made to your liking, AC and wifi included, and location is perfect for a base to travel around Sardinia!
Davide the host met us at the airport and was very helpful about suggestions for eating out and places to see. His excellent English and friendly manner made our stay easy. The room was spotless and has excellent security. The elevator to the hotel floor is a a great plus.
The location is excellent. It's very convenient to walk to restaurants, historical sites, shopping, and a short bus ride to Poetto beach. The hosts are kind and super helpful. The hotel itself is beautiful and very clean. I would definitely stay here if I visited again.
Everything was amazing. From staff to room to breakfast etc. We have stayed in many 4 or 5 star hotels in Sardinia but this hotel deserved the 4 stars and was our best experience. Hotels in sardinia were usually very dissapointing despite the 4 or 5 stars.
Check in was straightforward, the room was gorgeous, the shower perfect, the aircon was welcome. They even offered us a safe place to stow our bags while we explored Cagliari on our last day in Sardinia
Great location, right in the heart of the historic center with easy access to all, very comfortable and well decorated with lots of Sardinian details. Gabriela was fabulous!
