Ortigia (Ὀρτυγία in ancient Greek) is the beating heart of the city of Syracuse. Magic of alleys and architectural wonders, it shows everyone the multiple dominations that crossed it over the centuries: Greeks, Romans, Normans, Byzantines and Spaniards. Just take a walk getting lost in its meanders, or watch a sunrise (just less than 50 meters from the apartment) to fall madly in love with it. The fish market, the Temple of Apollo and the Cathedral, the churches and noble palaces, the Spanish castle, the Jewish baths, are just some of the things to admire. And then in the evening, an aperitif at the marina or a fish-based dinner in one of the many small restaurants. Absolutely on foot or by bike, or via the small electric buses that go around the island (a stop is a short walk from the apartment). There are two paid parking lots on the island. The island is almost entirely a limited traffic area (ZTL).
