World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

Bologna is a very friendly city with a laid back vibe and very safe....the general prices to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner were extremely reasonable which was a nice surprise! Make sure to get the little train up to San Luca, but do it on a good clear day as the views are amazing! We loved "Eataly" and "Roberto Bistrot" and try all the ice cream shops....Bellisimo!!

Bologna is wonderful, plenty to do for a long weekend.
Bologna is wonderful, plenty to do for a long weekend. It’s flat so easy to get around. The food (gelato, coffee, meats, pasta) is exceptional. It’s clean and reasonably safe with a great atmosphere. Not overwhelmed by tourists (yet). It’s a good base to travel to Florence (too many tourists), Pisa, Parma …

Bologna is a very nice city to spend a few days. It is worth to mention that you ca easy access other city’s in the area with high speed train, like Firenze, Verona and Ravenna. Bologna has a good vibe, good shopping and meny good restaurants. If you are into high end shopping you will not be disappointed either.

I liked the accomodation and the range of restaurants I could use. Try the pasta dish Grimigna! I was close to a shop where I could buy a daily bus ticket to meander through Bologna, and send postcards.
I wished I had planned my trip better, although I found certain places accidentally, like the Two Towers. In particular, I never really found the bus and train stations! The advertised prices for tourist tours in season were over the top. Brochures, maps, bus guides etc would have been useful. I do not think that my host had private transport which would have been a boon, if he had thought to offer private tours! A very friendly family...
Incidentally, there were several add-ons, like tourist tax, contents of the mini bar etc. But free coffee, regular cleaning, clean towels and plenty of other items like free toilet roll and free bathroom sachets.
I found people very friendly and willing to let me practise my command of the Italian language on them; I even chatted with someone who knew the Italian Eurovision contestant to be in town! I felt reasonably safe, though was too good at getting lost!
There were parks, gardens and countryside within easy distances. The room itself had no special view and could be noisy though was clean and efficient. There was free local wi fi.
Bologna, la rossa, la grassa e la dotta.

Endless Porticos, enjoy it and keep walking.
Endless Porticos, enjoy it and keep walking. Cinema Modernissimo under the town hall square, watch a brand new movie and have a aperitovo while you wait.
Stay !! at the bar in Place Minghetty square ( not the restaurant) lots of food and wines, Stroll via Gallieta, small one amn tailors, pasta maker, fishmonger, nice cafe and restaurants.
Enjoy of film city to the west, if you pass the water automat in the wall ( with or without gas - yes its working ) you have found it
The room was lovely and spacious, as well as very clean. We had our own private bathroom down the corridor which was huge. There was a lovely selection of teas, coffees, water in the fridge and snacks in the room when we arrived and lots of storage space. The host was absolutely lovely, met us at the apartment, booked our taxi to the airport, sent us her top tips for where to go in Bologna as well as restaurant recommendations and a map of the city centre - such a great night's stay here!
The location is great, and mostly quiet considering how city-centre it is. It is modern and contemporary, although doesn't rise to the level of luxury. In comparison to a lot of hotels and apartments in Italy, which remain dark and dated, it was refreshing to have something new and renovated. The common areas are beautiful. The auto-mated check-in was easy and the host was available on What's App, even getting us into the apartment a bit early so we could drop off our luggage.
This was my second stay at this excellent hotel. Faultless. Very comfortable room and modern well-appointed en suite shower room. Reception staff are wonderful, helpful and professional. The hotel is in a great location in central Bologna, with Piazza del Nettuno and the historic centre, shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. I parked at the nearby Parcheggio Piazza VIII Agosto which was easy. Breakfast was excellent with different options available.
This is a beautifully decorated small hotel quite close to the centre of Bologna. Everything was walkable and the area felt safe at night. Breakfast in the garden was a lovely start to each day with plenty of selection. All the staff were knowledgeable, polite and friendly, going the extra mile to keep all guests happy even though it was a full hotel and peak season. Beds were comfy and shower was good. Definitely on my recommend in Bologna list.
I love Bologna so finding a hotel so close to the centre was a joy. Great location, some quirky rooms decorated by artists - including the one we stayed in! Tea and coffee making facilities. Superb breakfast. Also Prossecco, filled croissants and crisps available in the guest lounge(!) Great location for exploring the city, about a 10 min walk from the main rail station with much of this under the colonnades that Bologna is famous for.
A one night stay in October, 2022. We loved the wonderful ambiance of the hotel and fantastic service. The little details offered by the hotel were greatly appreciated (welcome chocolates and hand written message and goodbye cookies).Location was amazing. Breakfast was delicious with a la carte options offered at no extra cost by wonderfully friendly and helpful ladies. We will sure stay here again if we come back to Bologna.
The staff were unfailingly cheerful, helpful, patient and welcoming, even when we arrived at 3 o'clock in the morning after our flight was delayed. The location is good: a short taxi ride from the airport, an easy bus ride into the centre of Bologna, set in leafy surroundings. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a feast, served a short walk away, in the Savoia Regency Hotel.
Everything. Class and comfort at every turn and yet, probably because it was Bologna, one of the most reasonable in terms of price. Close to the train station, and not a far walk from the center of town. This was truly luxury compared to other hotel rooms at similar prices. Bed, bathroom, shower, chairs in room, breakfast, lobby, and staff were all excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
It is well-equipped quiet place close to Bologna Mazzini station where it is easy to catch a train to Bologna Centrale or Prato (to transfer to Firenze), Marco was a very helpful and understanding host for us, we were able to check-in quite late (due to delayed flight), everything in the apartment is planned very well, breakfast was very good comparing to similar places we stayed in around Italy
Perla is actually an "albergo". This means that if you expect the amenities of a hotel you will be disappointed. It is in an old house in the historical centre of Bologna. The rooms however were clean as was the bathroom. A stained bed-cover was changed immediately. The windows are noise-proof. The personnel was very friendly and helpful. It is located very near to all the sights of Bologna.
This is a real boutique hotel with only 4 rooms in a building in the central old town of Bologna. The owner/manager is very kind and helped us with whatever we needed (late check-in, restaurant and taxi reservation). Breakfast is very good, with fruits, cheese, ham, pastries, eggs on demand, everything really fresh. Bed is very comfortable. Can definitely be recommended.
The location was convenient when arriving from Bologna Central station or by monorail from the airport. A short walk from the city centre in a nice quiet area with cafes and a supermarket nearby. The apartment was clean and comfortable. We were welcomed by Jacopo who arrived very promptly to give us the keys. The air conditioning was much appreciated in the hot weather.
Close to Bologna Centrale (5 minute walk) and easily walkable to the town centre (10 minutes). We booked a Deluxe room which was huge and had a balcony. The hotel is enormous and obviously designed for conferences but is perfectly good for a leisure stay.
Breakfast was fine but is on an industrial scale!
The restaurant was OK but quite limited choice.
Although the hotel is literally located at the end of the urban Bologna, bus 25 last stop is in front of the hotel and one will be downtown in 15 minutes. The hotel is affordable, rooms are cleaned daily, and breakfast is abundant for Italian 3*. The staff is kind. The airport is nearby - a 7-8 minutes taxi ride which is cheaper than Marconi express.
Hotel Touring is a quaint boutique hotel, but do not judge it from the exterior. We loved the decor, the breakfast (included) and especially the staff! The location was perfect for exploring Bologna, as it was only a ten minute walk to the city centre. Would definitely recommend!
This is a well located hotel. We had a very large room when compared to other hotel rooms in Bologna and in general, Italy. The staff was very helpful, the room was quiet and clean. Convenient underground parking which was a great surprise. We would definitely stay here again.
Location is as central as you can get and host provides you with a full list of food recommendations for Italy's food capital. The benefit of staying in an 'apartment-style' accommodation in Bologna is having a fridge, microwave and dining room for all your local delicacies!
Second time staying here. Still great. A charming hotel in the heart of Bologna. We stayed in the junior suite, which was excellent. Staff are very friendly and helped organise a private car for us to the airport during a taxi strike! Will definitely come back!
We stayed at Conte Luna for a night before an early flight out of Bologna airport. It is a quiet hotel and the night staff was very helpful with our bags and arranging an early morning taxi.
I booked this hotel for it's proximity to the airport since we had an early flight out of Bologna. The airport shuttle departed about every 15 minutes.
