Loved this place. Very quiet Hill top town in Tuscany.
Loved this place. Very quiet Hill top town in Tuscany. We stayed in the castle. Hotel Della Fortezza. Lots of history. If you are renting a car rent a small one. The roads are very narrow with lots of hairpin curves.

Quaint little town that's super fun to explore.
Quaint little town that's super fun to explore. There were absolutely zero tourists here when we visited in early April, so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! We spent an hour wandering through back streets before eating dinner in town at Ristorante Fidalma, which was lovely.

We have been to Italy many times and have stayed in and visited many hill towns. With a planned cruise from Civitavecchia, and having visited Rome on a number of occasions, we were looking for a new and alternate location for the few nights prior to our cruise. Staying in Civitavecchia itself is not a good choice – absolutely nothing to do there. Staying in Sorano and also visiting the sister hill town of Pitigliano, a 15-minute drive from Sorano, was a great choice. The drive from the Rome airport to Sorano is about 2 hours; the drive back to Civitavecchia is a bit over 1 hour. (Note that Hertz is the only car rental agency in Civitavecchia and the one-way rental was very reasonable.)
Sorano is a quite town with very few tourists, very limited shopping, and very limited choices in restaurants. (Note that Fidalma Restaurant in Sorano is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, has very reasonable prices, and the traditional Italian food was so good that we ate there three times.) However, it is a delight to wander and explore Sorano’s medieval streets. We spend part of one day exploring Sorano and a second day in Pitigliano which has many shops, restaurants, and other tourist attractions.
There is a sizable parking lot. The room has its own garden - it was nice to sit outside in the evening. The owner is one of the friendliest hosts; she is always reachable by text message if necessary, but aside from that, you have the privacy you need. Good selection of breakfast desserts. The charming town of Sorano is truly a hidden treasure. In the late afternoon, stroll from your room through the castle to the village, where you can eat dinner and take in the stunning sunset. Undoubtedly, it was a highlight of our trip.
The apartment is located in the heart of magical town of Sorano, literally in a historic palazzo. Spotless clean, with everything you need. Parking available nearby for free on a street, and we always found a spot. It was one of the most memorable accommodations on our trip in Tuscany. The host shared some valuable info with us on where to eat and what to do in the area. Since we came without doing much research it became very handy (go on a tuff cave hike that leads to magical viewpoint of Sorano)
Hi Erica & Allessandro, we really enjoyed our holiday with you. The peace, nature, freedom and your hospitality were the perfect ingredients for a relaxing stay.
We stayed in the glamping tent for two weeks and it was fully equipped. We could also use facilities every day as if it were a hotel room, such as cleaning or towels.
Erica thank you for introducing us to Spirulina and the ride in the fiat 500.😄
Hope to see you again!
Greetings André and Maartje
We loved our stay at this hotel! it’s located inside an old historic fortress and it preserves all the charm and character of that time period. The location is great, in a beautiful and quaint village and whichever direction you drive from there you are surrounded by the gorgeous Tuscan hills and medieval villages.
The breakfast was fantastic, with lots of choices of local cheese, yogurts, meats, bread and yummy treats. Excellent price/quality ratio.
A lovely place to stay for a few nights amidst peaceful countryside - a short drive to wonderful Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana. Two apartments side by side - though we had the place to ourselves. Spotlessly clean and a good terrace space at the front to sit and eat. The small plunge pool was glorious at the beginning and end of the day. Daniela was delightful and the home made jam and honey much appreciated.
What a wonderful gem of a place. You will fall in love with this hotel. The views are exceptional. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Quiet, clean and serene. The breakfast was perfect with enough variety to get you ready for the day. All the staff were wonderful. Don't miss out on the restaurant. One of the best meals we had in Italy.
We will definitely return.
Hotel is in the fortress, with few rooms only. It’s very private. Amazing view from the rooms. Staff are great. Breakfast is also great. We had a dinner in the hotels restaurant (you need to reserve it). Great food as well. Restaurant is with few tables only, so you have the feeling that it’s only you in the fortress. Definitely a recommendation!
Terme Di Sorano, what a great place, unwind, relax, enjoy, close to two small villages, supermarket, garage, had a car issue local garage helped us out no problem, local wine festivals what more could u ask for, pizza shop fresh every day
Good locality for trips (by car) to other localities in central Tuscany (Sorano, Pitigliano, Saturnia, Bolsena,...) . Private pool was clean and large enough. Good place to stay with small children. The manager was nice and helpful.
The castle itself is located within the beautiful small town of Sorano. The room was nice and the view over Sorano was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Big props for the great room service.
Highly recommended !
clean cozy room and individual bathroom. Even the owner is very kind and try to make your stay happy, but she cannot manage heating system. The breakfast is good enough and the location is so nice to access Sorano -cliff town.
My room was great, simple furnishing but suited the hotel’s concept and loction perfectly. I had with an amazing view onto the village and into the green surroundings. Very special historical hotel with so much charm.
- host was very friendly
- appartment was very clean
- the appartment was well-equipped, calm and cosy
- nice garden
- Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana are only a few km away
