Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodations, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city center apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.
I really liked Naples. I had no preconceptions and was pleasantly surprised. It's big. Noisy. Grimy. A bit delapidated. But it has real energy. It felt authentic. We were there mid April so it was ideal weather for wandering the streets. Not too hot, and not cold by UK standards. We walked a lot. In three days we spent two exploring the city, downinn Campari spritzes and eating pizza, and I'm not big on pizza. (Is it so much better than in a decent London pizzeria e.g Franco Manca? Not really, it's still tomato on toast, but it is cheaper and more fun). The people were lovely. You'll come across brusqueness, of course, but mostly they were kind and welcoming and in the tourist hotspots most people talk a little English is your Italian is as poor as mine. And you can visit Pompeii, the Amalfi coast and the islands of Capri and Ischia very easily by train or ferry. It's not as beautiful as Rome or Florence – nowhere near – but in some ways all the better for that. It doesn't feel like a museum piece, it's a proper city with proud Maradona-obsessed inhabitants.

They say "See Naples and die" What a chaotic, colourful, noisy dirty and wonderful city. The ancient world meets the modern world and rich and poor, young and old are all mixed up together in a sprawling mass of humanity. We did the open top bus tour (preferred B line) you can do both routes in 24 hours from when you 1st get ticket stamped. The Catacombs are well worth a visit as is the Naples Archaeological Museum. Herculaneum would be my preference over Pompeii if you have limited time. Caught ferry to Capri and then another ferry to Sorento. Would have preferred just to have spent a bit more time in Sorento. Trains from Sorento to Naples easy. Generally found if easy to get around. Don't forget to sign in and out on the Metro like at home.

Napoli is real city with a mixture of dirt and charm, real life and tourist life are blended, it appears dangerous but once you avoid risky places on wrong time you can enjoy its unique atmosphere of live port city.

I have been to several other cities in Italy and Naples so far, is my favorite. The neopolitans are so vibrant, friendly and family oriented. The city also did not disappoint for the culture and archeological offerings. The 2 museums I visited were top-notch. The ruins of Herculaneum and Pompeii were fantastic.

Go to Naples with an open mind and an open heart, live the city, try to talk to people, you will be surprised to meet generous, friendly people even ready to take you places, explain to you the story lies. Go take the new elector just opened to go to monte echia from via caracciolo. Where the castle on the sea lays, is the little island where the Greeks landed first to study the people. After they found out they where shepperds and farmers, they decided to go to monte echia, where they founded nea polis, the new city. Enjoy the sea, the view the great museum in piazza Cavour, the capodimonte woods, the floridiana villa. Visit the monuments, if you go to the monte di pietà (the bank where people used to go with their gold to ge money in exchange, you can see an authentic Caravaggio painting, close you have Cappella San severo, with the statue of Christ covered by a marble veil and other incredible statues. Eat, eat, eat, especially the pastry and sweets unique.

Napoli is unlike any other Italian city I've been to.
Napoli is unlike any other Italian city I've been to. It's nuts! It is an amazing place to visit and, depending on one's personality, it is either overwhelming or invigorating. I found it a little bit of both, to be honest. The pizza is perhaps the best in the world. The centro storico has a claustrophobic character, lacking the grand piazzas of Roma. The need to constantly dodge fast-moving motorcycles and scooters (and even autos) while walking down the narrow streets and alleys of the old city does get wearying after a few hours. The architecture is beautiful and there are many worthwhile sights to investigate. I would encourage anyone to visit Napoli, just be prepared for a city that is quite unlike most others in Europe.
The room was easy enough to find, look for a small blue sign on the gate post outside where they will meet you on arrival. A short walk to lots of great restaurants and bars, along with amazing shopping.
The breakfast in Italy consists of croissant and coffee - so don’t be expecting anything savoury. This hotel uses a local bar 200 meters away which you take a token to for complimentary coffee and croissant. Tip - just sit down outside they will serve you - show them the voucher when you arrive.
Really good hostel. Alfredo and the staff took such good care of me. I got great tips on Naples and at check-out they helped me find alternative accommodations, which was so unbelievable useful as I arrived in August, peak-holiday season in Italy. The room and hostel is very clean and in good condition, which is an interesting contrast to the surrounding area which is the busy central station of Napoli. Location is great as you are within walking distance to historic centre of the city.
I love how the staff made us feel welcome, especially Rosario who was so accommodating and kind marking an excellent impression to us on the Napolitanian way of life. The bedsheets and towel are crisp, clean, and smell really good. They make up our room every day. The breakfast crew were all very nice and attentive to our needs and even remembers how we like our coffee to be served. We have been to different cities in Italy and so far the service in Hotel Bella Napoli is the best!
The vibe of the room and location was so cool! We loved the update room and lighting, it added to the mood. The bath was absolutely amazing and relaxing, we used this to relax after our 14 days in Italy before our flight out of Naples. We loved their communication and they helped us set up a taxi for 4am! The hosts were absolutely wonderful and if we come back to Naples to spend more time we would stay here again. The amenities were plentiful and correctly listed.
I spent many years in Southern Italy and have been to dozens of different hotels and B&Bs. I know that the more affordable options often leave a great deal to be desired, and the actual rooms/apartments do not always match the online descriptions. Not this one! I have been very positively surprised with modern and practical facilities, exceptional cleanness, and very professional and helpful customer service. The price and location were very reasonable too.
We arrived at a little stressed...the drivers in Italy are insane !! No sooner were we in the room when we got a knock on the door ... Darius with coffee and croissants. It was a wonderful welcome. This hotel is perfect for a night before a flight stay. It's basic but spotless, and nothing is too much bother. While the hotel is by busy road, it's not noisy and far enough from the airport not to be kept awake by the sound of planes.
Warm welcome from the host staff!
Room spacious with all we needed for our stay
Great location to explore Naples close to all amenities including modern metro and cheap.
Deserve a mention Nadja breakfast, Massimilliano and Valeria of course thank you so much for making myself and my family feel welcome - you have made our first visit to Naples and Italy one to remember!
We will be back! 😀
Great location next to the central train station for further travelling by train (e.g. to Paestum), easily accesible by bus from the airport, nice staff, surprisingly rich and very good breakfast offering not only Italian sweet pastries but also some "salty" options (which is not typical for this type of hotel in Italy so the breakfast exceeded my expectations). Restaurants nearby.
Just stayed here with my two daughters on a trip around Italy. We loved bibis appartment! It was modern and clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The owner was really helpful and was in contact helping us with restaurant recommendations and booked a taxi for us. Naples was my daughters favourite part of Italy so far
There was a choice of a savoury or sweet breakfast which was great as a savoury breakfast is not usually an option in Italy! We had a lovely room with a balcony which we chose to have breakfast on. The hotel is in a great position for visiting many locations in Naples and is not too far from the airport.
Gennaro was an amazing host! He cares about his guests and them having a great experience in Naples! He provided the most amazing croissants for breakfast, and the pizza restaurant he sent me to was the best pizza I have had in Italy! Train was tricky to figure out, but convenient to get around on!
Second time at this B&B. Still this is one of our favorite places in Italy. Anastasia was as always helpul and so nice. If you are going to Naples you should choose this place.
This time we had a car with us and the recommended parking lot by Anastasia, was nearby and everything was ok.
This beautiful room was perfect for our stay in Naples! The decor was stunning and the room was well taken care of. The washroom was spacious with a large shower and double sink. The host was helpful. The location was ideal. What a lovely stop on our trip in Italy!
Great stay for our last night in Italy! Close to the airport which is what we needed for a 6am flight the next morning. The staff helped us set up a taxi ride for the morning and was very friendly. The hotel and rooms are clean & nice! Great stay and great price.
It is beautiful, it has views, it is luxurious. Gisella, GianLuca, Gabriele, Angela and Loredana looked after us brilliantly. the breakfast was a feast. it is the best place we have stayed in Naples, and probably (for me….my man is Italian) the best in Italy.
The location to this property is amazing for anyone who wants to be in the heart of Naples! It’s perfect! It was also nice to have an elevator; after 2 weeks in Italy, this was the first one to have a lift. Luigi is also great, prompt at communication!
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. It is not a safe location. I left and lost my money. I would have been afraid to go outside. I travelled alone around Italy for over two weeks. This is the only place I felt unsafe.
it was the best experience I had in south Italy, the hotel make you feel like a special guest. All the amenities were amazing, food was great and all the staff treated tou very nicely .
