An Italian Masterpiece

Best-known for the stunning Duomo, Florence is full of amazing buildings and its historic centre. The Ponte Vecchio, a 14th-century bridge holding a multitude of shops on its edges is a stunning example and provides a truly unforgettable view.

Dig into more of the city’s historical past at the Basilica of Santa Croce, a Franciscan church full of great artwork and the burial place of Italian greats: Michelangelo and Galileo. The Uffizi Gallery is one of the world’s finest art museums and the Pitti Palace is not far behind.

For great dining, the Santa Croce district has countless options and the unique lampredotto is Florentine fast-food with a 1000-year old history. Many consider the local gelato, Italian ice-cream, to be the best in the world.

The beauty and flavours of Florence are just a 15-minute train ride from the Amerigo Vespucci International Airport. Whether you’re looking for a room with a view at a cosy B&B, a luxury hotel or an intimate guesthouse, Booking.com has the perfect accommodation for your Florence adventure.

I was here for 10 days in April.

I was here for 10 days in April. I saw all the major sights and yet the list of places to see that I haven't visited is longer than the list of those I have. There is so much to see and do! Take a walking tour when you first arrive to get oriented. The guides are knowledgeable and must be licensed. Then make a list of must-sees dependent on your interests. I strongly recommend booking a skip the line guided tour or at least tickets, or you'll be standing in long lines and not have time to see as much. I averaged about 12,000 steps a day, but I love to walk. If you are here long enough, book a tour of Siena or a wine tasting tour. Just be aware that the countryside is hilly and you must be able to walk up stairs and up and down steep streets. In Florence I loved the Bargello and Orsanmichele because they were much less crowded. The Uffizi is amazing, but be prepared for crowds of people. Try to go to the Duomo piazza before 8 am to see it without the crowd. Have a coffee and enjoy the quiet there, as well as at the Uffizi and along the Arno. You can get pics without a gazillion people in them. Sign up for a cooking class, learn to make pasta, bruschetta and tiramisu! Be sure you go to the Mercado Centrale. Wander through the shops on the ground floor and smell and taste the cheeses. Then go upstairs for breakfast or lunch. Don't miss the churches- Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce, Santa Spiritu, and San Lorenzo are all worth your while. Don't miss the Riccardi-Medici palace. And that just scratches the surface. Pick a different piazza each evening for an apperitvo or a glass of Prosecco. Keep your ears open for the bells and for random street performers, you may hear opera singing, violin, accordion. All wonderful. Eat at Zaza's and try the Riboletto, the Tuscan soup.

Just beautiful. Lived up to expectations.

Just beautiful. Lived up to expectations. Good decision landing at Florence airport. Quick tram ride into central Florence. All sights walkable although beware of cobbles. Crowded around Duomo. Don’t bother queuing to get views from bell tower or dome . Santa Croce more interesting .Rather go to Piazza Michelangelo on the other side of the Arno.for views Food wonderful ,even in the most modest restaurant. Go to Central Market for lunchtime snack. Highly recommend Perche No for heavenly gelato. For modern take on Tuscan cuisine: Ristorante Brandolino in San Lorenzo area. Book early tickets for Uffizi and Acedemia.

Beautiful city and easy to walk everywhere.

Beautiful city and easy to walk everywhere. Best to book galleries etc in advance to save queuing up. My favourite was the Pitti Palace and Boboli and Bardini gardens. The Bardini garden has a cafe with a terrace with a great view but it was very busy at lunchtime and we couldn't get food as they had got too far behind with orders but great for a drink. San Spirito over the river has a great square with restaurants and cheaper than centre of Florence. The Gilli cafe in the centre has a great buzz about it, fab cocktails and great for people watching

Undoubtedly, Florence has fascinating history and wonderful...

Undoubtedly, Florence has fascinating history and wonderful sites and views which I really enjoyed. However, sadly, there are no sufficient walking spaces provided for the crowds of tourists who come there. Many walking paths are very narrow and uneven, and car traffic is extremely busy even in the oldest and narrowest streets. Pedestrians must be very aware of constantly speeding cars, motors, scooters, and bikes and take great care when crossing streets (especially with children!). All this makes sightseeing stressful and even dangerous. Another problem in Florence, compared to other major cities in Europe is the near-total lack of green spaces- parks or green squares etc, at least in the area between SMN train Station and the Oltrarno which I got to know. The exception is the vast Bobboli Gardens but you must pay to enter here. For this reason, I would avoid Florence in the height of summer. I think both locals and tourists would benefit from more green spaces and the closure of motor traffic in the old city quarters. Another problem is the overwhelming majority of carbohydrate-based food- white bread, white pasta, pizzas. Traditional and delicious as they may be, alternatives should be offered for a carb-free or celiac diet, which is common in other parts of the world.

Can't say anything too much of Florence.

Can't say anything too much of Florence. Have been there dozens of times since I was a child. Seen anything with the most varied eyes. Last time I was there I wandered around places of my childhood: my aunt used to live a little north of San Marco, close to the ring road above. I discovered what was must have been a very lush neighborhood during medieval times: all remnants of gardens anywhere (one of them is now a hotel). There's the "Garden of the simples" but many more, hidden behind the gates of a nowadays villa. Also, if you can get off the beaten track, you'll find ordinary places that still have the rust of the past: the Farmacia dei Medici, still open until not so long ago and that still bear the signs of the potions sold. A road have a sign indicating the house where Andrea del Sarto lived, a painter of the 1500 who decorated a visitable cloister* just a couple of meters by, a house that he himself built with his bare hands. Wake up early, step away from the noise and you'll find out all of this and more. Cheers. * pay attentions to opening days. on sundays they vary.

I can't imagine a better location. The hotel is located in the main plazza in Florence. The most famous historical placed that we wanted to visit were a 5 minute walk. It was great having two bedrooms. We stayed in the penthouse, and the views were spectaccular of the Palazzo Vechhio and the rest of Florence. Florence was really hot, but the hotel had the BEST AIR CONDITIONING, which is not common in Italy. I wish I knew the name of the woman working at the receptions desk. She was incredibly kind and helpful.

I wanted a hotel close to Florence but also with grounds and a pool. Both were excellent. I hadn't planned on eating at the hotel every evening but the food, ambience and service were excellent. For those that fear having to save a bed by the pool every day, fear not, there are ample. The local buses into town are frequent but a 10 min walk away and don't adhere to forecast times, I didn't find it a problem, part of the experience of being in Italy. The hotel operates a shuttle but not always at the times I needed.

Very convenient location close to city center and the central train station. Very authentic place. Maria Antonia is very pleasant woman, extremely welcoming. She touched my heart by her hospitality, attention and willingness to help. She prepared for us delicious, generous breakfast, one of the best we've had during our stay in Italy. We were allowed to leave our luggage on last day of our stay whilst we spent the day in Florence. We really felt at home at this accommodation. Will definitely be staying again.

(A trip highlight was our host’s recommendation that we also try visiting the lesser known Lucca on a day we were going to visit Pisa & we loved it so much we stayed there & didn’t bother with Pisa at all! - best tip ever!)

Good staff and great location with a reasonable price. Also, the cleanness of the hotel in general. I stayed in four different hotels in Italy and yet this is the best one among the ones I tried.

The room was generally clean, the hotel is very close to a tram station and you can reach easily the city center. Also they have free parking, something that is very rare in Italy
