Putignano is an ancient village located on the Murgia hills, in the province of Bari. Famous is the Putignano cave, also known as the Trullo Cave, the first karst cave used for tourism purposes in all of Apulia. Putignano is known for its Carnival tradition that dates back to the Magna Graecia era, the oldest in Europe. Its historic center has numerous monuments and churches. Noteworthy is the Putignano Piazza Plebiscito, where you can visit three buildings representing the three powers: the Church of St. Peter the Apostle, Palazzo del Balì, and the former seat of the town hall, called Il Sedile. The famous Trulli of Alberobello, the Castellana Caves and Locorotondo are a few kilometers away. A 60-minute drive takes you to the coast of Taranto and Matera, the city of stone.
