The experience was great! Staying in a 130 year old raditional home with antique furniture was wonderful and the house was beautiful. The hosts were friendly and extremely helpful and generous. The guest house is a short distance from Suzaka station, convenient stores and restaurants. Ask the hosts for their recommendations for traditional foods and sights around the area. You can also rent bikes at a low cost and take a 30 minute ride through orchards to the next town Obuse, which is famous for apples and chestnuts. Near by is yudanaka, a thousand year old town famous for their hot springs trail and mountains! This a very authentic experience and I was glad to meet locals and other international travelers.

Excellent staff! Juri was awesome, even drove us to station in her little italian car :)

No amount of words can cover how lovely and welcoming Kura guesthouse is. The house is beautiful, in a old traditional Japanese house kind of way. Located in a quiet neighborhood but somehow surrounded by awesome restaurants. Some room have a bed and a lounge room with view on the garden. Ideal for taking a break from the city and refreshing. But that nothing compared to the kindness of the host. She saw walking and gave me a ride, brought me to a nice hot spring after diner and to a nice hidden restaurant for lunch the next day. I only regret I didn’t stay longer but will definitely be back. Thanks for everything!

The place is like a home. It is full of life and people. The kitchen is like a home kitchen with foods and cups, plates etc. We are free to use the kitchen and drink tea & coffee. The staff Yuri and Marina are very warm and helpful. Yuri gave us a ride to train station because we almost miss our train. This place is not for people who want to have a quiet place. We have no problem with it and we slept well while the rest were still celebrating in the hall. We met wonderful people there.

The owner and her team is very very frinedly. I am also a hostel staff and I learned a lot from them.

I really love this guesthouse and hope I'll be able to go there again in the future. The guesthouse itself is a lovely house built in the traditional Japanese style, which lets you experience the Japanese way of life first hand. The staff was extremely helpful, nice and welcoming. They would help me organize my travel, book bus rides, give me detailed information about the nearby attractions and restaurants and would even sit down with me every evening to teach me Japanese calligraphy. Especially the time in the evening I spent with the staff and other guests in the living room was always a blast and really made you feel like your part of the Kura family. If I ever got the opportunity to stay there again, I wouldn't hesitate and seize it!

Simon Germany

Friendly staff, they were very welcoming and helpful! Cosy house with a warm atmosphere. Futon beds on tatami floor were extremely comfortable and warm! I could find all what I needed in the kitchen.

I love this place and the staff! Very nice old japanese house with cozy communal space. Great place to meet people. The staff is very willing to help you have a good time. Stay more then one night here!

Anonymous Netherlands

One of the best experiences I've had travelling anywhere. Although not the best facilities and a bit of a ways from the big cities, the house has an undeniable charm that is bolstered by the amazingly kind people you'll meet here. This place seems to be pretty popular in the area as locals drop in all the time and plenty of repeat visitors. Although the staff speak English, this is also a great place to practice your Japanese. Would absolutely love to come back someday

  • Is it quiet at night?
