Everything about it: the location (and views), the much-noted breakfast, complimentary beer and hot baths. It was peak cherry blossom so I was spoiled, but I’d happily visit again at other times of the year.

Within a 10-minute walk of Hikone Castle, Lake Biwa and JR Hikone Train Station, Castle Hotel features a Japanese restaurant, free Wi-Fi at the lobby and free-use bicycles. All rooms have free wired internet, and some offer castle views. Guests can enjoy castle views from the public baths. Rooms at Hotel Hikone Castle are modern and air-conditioned, with an LCD TV, a desk and a fridge. Slippers are provided, as is an electric kettle with green tea. The en suite bathroom has a bathtub with shower attachment. The hotel offers free pick-up from JR Hikone Train Station from 14:00-20:00 daily, and an advance reservation is required. On-site parking is free. If arriving early or leaving town late in the day, luggage can be left at the 24-hour front desk. The hotel has a gift shop and several banquet rooms, and the lobby offers views of Hikone Castle. Guests can enjoy massages at Spa Sarasa for an extra cost. Decorated in a casual Japanese style, Kissho Restaurant features a breakfast buffet and traditional multi-course meals with Ohmi beef. Guests without breakfast included in the rate must make an advance reservation to eat breakfast at Kissho.
