Ryokan Asunaro is located about 10 minutes easy walk from the station and is very convenient for all the local sites. While it is not in an older part of the town, the building is a beautifully restored and decorated traditional ryokan. Our room was a spacious Japanese style room with tatami, futons and a sitting area with beautiful wooden furniture from the region. We enjoyed the Japanese breakfasts each morning of our 3 night stay, opting for these rather than the Western style one as they were so delicious. We had a kaiseki dinner in the ryokan one night which was spectacular - around 10 courses all served in beautiful tableware. On another night we went to Kamamura restaurant, a small family run restaurant recommended and booked by the ryokan, for a wonderful meal. Yukiko, one of the managers, spoke excellent English and was so helpful with a number of our travel glitches responding promptly to emails.

On just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station, traditional Japanese-style Ryokan Asunaro offers comfortable rooms with a seating area and free WiFi. The hotel features a relaxing public hot-spring bath and free yukata robe rental for women. Meals provided at this ryokan features local ingredients for guests to enjoy. The traditional decor of the rooms evokes a warm atmosphere with paintings by local artists on the fusuma sliding doors. Each room includes an LCD TV, minibar and electric kettle make for a convenient stay. Rooms have tatami-mat flooring and futon bedding. Complimentary bottle of water is provided in every room. From Asunaro Ryokan it is a 7-minute walk to the morning market, and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya. Shirakawa-go Village is located a 50-minute bus ride away, and the bus stop for the village is a 5-minute walk away. Guests at the Asunaro can soak away the day's fatigue in the hot public bath, which is made of granite stone. Also, private shower booths are available for staying guests.The ryokan features a garden and drinks vending machines, and offers bicycle rentals. The property offers traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast at the banquet hall. Western breakfast can be arranged with a prior request. Complimentary coffee can be enjoyed in the lobby every morning.
