It was so nice accommodation in Naoshima. Staff are kind, nice bed, good location (it’s really close to Motomura port!)

Murayama Japan

Charming old house in the art village. Host was very kind and welcoming. Room was very comfortable. We were overwhelmed by our experience in naoshima, it was perfect. I think this is a great place to stay, because you can schedule your day to see the art projects first, starting with the go’o shrine, then in the afternoon, rent a bike to traverse the island to see chichu museum and have dinner and bath in Miyanoura.

Sasha United States of America

The staff was AMAZING. They helped my partner with a gluten free menu.

Bryan United States of America

The staff was so friendly! We had a late check in and the staff kindly waited and accommodated us.

Nabila Indonesia

It was the perfect Japanese minshuku experience. I used to live in Japan so felt perfectly at home.

Joanne United States of America

Lovely staff, comfortable room & excellent breakfast.

Rob United Kingdom

It’s a truly authentic Japanese experience for those looking to see more than just the glamorous Benesse side of Naoshima.

Bram Belgium

Traditional Japanese house, with tatamis, shoji screens, wooden floors. Authentic, cozy and with privacy.

Alejandro Argentina

The room is really good. We booked a room with a bed so it's very good on cold weather. Check-in time is early compare to others so we can put our luggage before exploring the island.

Anonymous Japan

Very friendly and accommodating staff (we arrived unannounced at 11am and were able to check in). Breakfast was tasty and vegetarian friendly.

You have to pay cash for your stay so make sure you have enough although there’s a post office with ATM down the road but that may close at 5pm. After 5pm there’s not much to do in the area, no bars and very few restaurants so be prepared to have a very chilled evening and an early night. The owner will ask if you want them to book you a table at a restaurant and I suggest you do as we wandered round the whole area and didn’t really see anything open. The doors and floors are very creaky and squeaky, I felt like I probably woke up the whole place when I went to the toilet in the night. The air conditioner wasn’t very strong and it was a HOT night so we ended up sleeping on top of the duvet, although this did make the bed very comfy. Only one thin pillow per futon which was not quite enough for me but I’m sure if I’d asked I would’ve been given an extra one. This sounds like a lot of negatives but they are so minor, really it was a lovely, friendly little place!

The guesthouse was right In the middle of the art house project and about 30min walk to benesse art area and the main port but there is a bus or you can hire bikes. Traditional style rooms with futons which are pretty comfortable and paper screen doors and beautifully painted walls. The staff are lovely but they only speak a little English so bear with them, they are really nice! The facilities are clean and the rice balls for breakfast were delicious. We didn’t have our soup as it was a bit early for us English people used to cereal and toast. Lovely atmosphere.

It's an older-style guesthouse, so having only one bathroom is pretty standard, but I walked downstairs three times to check if the bathroom was free before being able to shower.

My room was quite comfortable and I loved the matching paintings on the doors and lights, plus there's plenty of space so it was quite cosy overall. Good location to view the Honmura area, close by to a lot of cafes and the staff recommended a bike rental nearby. Check in process was pretty simple.

The shared toilet and bathroom where not super clean through the day and there's only one to share with all the guest so you have to come at the right time!

Great location, it's a nice traditional place, a bit over price due to the share bathroom but we're on an island so this is the price. Sleeping in this harbour is really great as you get to see the town without any tourist which is so quiet and lovely. We'll definitely come back!

“little cozy yado in the middle of artsy village”

There is only one toilet and one person at a time can use the shower, so at busy times one may have to cue. However it was invariably very clean, so this was not really a major drawback.

The yado is located in the middle of lovely Honmura village, just a couple of minutes from the Nokyomae bus stop (to/from the main port Miyanoura) and a handful of minutes for the smaller port for ferries to Inujima and other islands nearby. It is also in the middle of various artworks, and a couple of cute restaurants (open at least during the triennale). The staff is very accommodating and I was given a very bright room on my request. Breakfast is a hearty Japanese style and very tasty. The restaurant attached to the yado is very beautiful and serves equally delicious food (make sure you put in a reservation). Wifi worked perfectly.
