Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

A very lovely town.
A very lovely town.
But too many tourists during the weekend.
Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is wonderful but the vibe from other tourists and angry, upset staff members in shops can really darken an otherwise bright experience. It reminded me a lot of Kyoto in that way. The place, the shops, the scenery are all great... but tourists tend to be pushy, demanding, selfish, etc. And this leads many of the staff of establishments to be cold, distant, or upset; and rightfully so. I would like to go back there and spend more time at one of the inns. The staff there are usually very kind and helpful, and the spaces are very comfortable. But the place itself I could take a pass on.

We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and the other in Yufuin. Yufuin is an absolutely lovely place. Every thing is so cute! And a lot of street food along the way.
The best thing is Onsen Ryokan! Don't miss to enjoy traditional Japanese style accommodation.
The thing I don't like here is that shops mostly close around 5PM, staff (both in hotel and shop) don't really speak English. They will try to explain to you, but in Japanese TT Also, trash bins are hard to find along the street.
I really enjoy the accommodation here, and the city is just too cute. You can take photos in almost every corner. This city is a MUST!

Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place.
Yufu is not a big town and that is the beauty of this place. The main shopping street Yunotubo is cosy and easy to stroll. There are many good cafes along the way. We enjoyed very much cafe Pepper and Anahata. Watch out for unusual snow that blocked the highway from Hakata to Yufuin. Otherwise it is easy to get to.

The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible!
The traditional Japanese dinner is incredible! I like Japanese food and the food we had there is definitely the best ever. The traditional Japanese breakfast was great too.
Location is good too.
We plan to come back next year with more family members!
Cute hotel with FANTASTIC onsen, good breakfast, good WiFi, easy walk to station, and nice staff.
Both the outdoor and indoor Onsen are great at this hotel! The outdoor onsen was especially beautiful and definitely the highlight. Everything here was comfortable, clean, and nice.
The walk to the station is easy in good weather (about 15 min) and takes you along a beautiful river. It’s also walking distance to a few other onsen if you want to go to a variety of facilities. I would definitely recommend this place.
It was a wonderful experience way above my expectations, room was clean, spacious and comfortable (i wish i have home like this :D). View from the room was amazing, straight on Yufu mountain relaxing and breathtaking especially when taking morning bath in open air private onsen in the room (there were 3 onsens in room). Dinner and breakfast were very exquisite, it was real ryokan experience for me in a very luxurious environment . Staff was very kind and helpful, it makes you feel like you don't want to leave.
The room is spacious and there was a heated blanket plus bean bags to relax while sipping tea.
The private onsen is a plus feature with indoor and outdoor pool except that it is located outside the lobby building. In cold season, it can be pretty unpleasant to walk out in the cold. Instead the public onsen is in the same building as the rooms and lobby.
A good place to stay as it is located within walking distance to the kinrin lake and floral village.
very homey, traditional Japanese home in a neighborhood that's extremely walkable to the very-popular Yufuin (5 mins). Our host was friendly and welcoming, although her English isn't strong, but with google translate, that's not really much of a problem anymore. The in-house onsen was particularly nice (and hot!) The rooms were spacious and there was a choice between western beds and Japanese tatamis. Both were very comfortable.
Good location , only 750 meters from the Yufuin train station. 5 minutes taxi ride or 20 minutes walk to the hotel. Friendly staff and owner, but the owner got a bit grumpy when we asked for extra service or room supplies. It is a small facility with a few rooms, so the indoor onsen is not crowded when we stayed there. Included traditional Japanese breakfast with view to the Mt. Yufu is a plus.
Very spacious room with private onsen. Suitable for families as they have double bed and tatami area for futons setup. Separate toilet and bath, and even changing area attached to the private onsen, which feels like going to a sento. Onsen facing a small private garden, which will be nice if it wasnt too cold to soak.
Very nice and comfort Japanese style hotel (Ryokan). Hot bath (Onsen) in the room was very nice and have great mountain view. Dinner was the best fine dining Japanese courses I ever had. Staffs were very nice and English speaking. Overall worth the money especially If you plan to visit Yufuin.
The room is spacious and clean, with traditional tatami style. Provided the public onsen which you can enjoy for free. There's private onsen as well which you can enjoy for free, first come first serve.
It was really nice to have a experience in a Ryokan. I always wanted to stay in Ryokan one day. The private onsen was so nice. The big public onsen was nice too. Dinner and breakfast were good.
The space was beautiful and clean and the beds were very comfortable. The private onsen was delightful and we enjoyed the short walk to the lake. it was a perfect place to stay in Yufuin.
The ryokan is very well maintained, with really nice big tatami-room and private onsen overlooking the mountain. The staff is also very courteous and helpful. Great value in Yufuin.
Overall is very worth for every yen we paid. 3 big rooms with exceptional facility especially private onsen. Great for relaxing in Yufuin. Thanks for this good experience.
Onsen was great, sleeping on the tatami at the hotel was very comfy, the room was nice and dark when blinds are closed. There's a view and the location is convenient.
