We had a great experience staying at this guest house. The host was super nice and helpful. We told the host the JR train we would take to arrive, and as soon as we got out of ticket gate, we saw the host holding a sign with our names on. The house comes with heated floor in living room, which is a big plus in winter. It's very clean and well organized, exactly same as shown in the pictures. This house is in walking distance to a few attractions, including Kenroku Garden and the castle. Kanazawa is a beautiful city with rich culture and abundant seafood. We would like to visit it again in the near future.

Amazing brand new property, beautiful traditional style with modern finishes. Location is excellent for exploring Kanazawa. The host, Michio was extremely kind and also picked us up from the airport. Couldn't be happier with this booking!

Walking distance to almost all the tour sites. Not very roomy but with everything you possibly need. Also parking space is available.

There was a bakery right next to this property and it was such an amazing perk.

Great location & nice little house. Lots of local touches made it much better than staying in a hotel. Good facilities. Enjoyed sitting on floor & sleeping on futons for a change.

Michio pick us from Kanazawa Station which was very nice of him. The house feel very homely and has all facilities needed, washing machine, dryer, cooking ware, wifi. Location was good, able to walk to quite a few attractions. The living room was nice and warm, we spent most times here. We had a nice stay and made our Christmas holiday a great one.

The host met us at the station which was a nice touch

Very newly built but traditional style Japanese house close to all the main sights in lovely Kanazawa (fish market, geisha district, castle, gardens etc) while in a very quiet residential neighbourhood. The compact house - on two floors - is really large enough for a large family or perhaps 2 couples travelling together, and was too big for us (2 people). It is tastefully decorated - nice blend of antique and modern furniture - has everything one would need for a longer stay: fully equipped kitchen, dishes and cups, washing machine, games room, TVs etc. As such, it would really be an ideal base for a one week stay with a family. The owner/manager Michio was extremely helpful and picked us up at the station and drove us back, which we certainly were not expecting. He spoke good English and gave us advice on what to see in town, and was always reachable on his phone or by email. We enjoyed reading the design books and lying on the tatami mats in the living room.

Very nice Machiya,, well decorated and equiped. Very good communication qith host, providing nice adresses for restaurants around. The Machyia is very well located to go around the main spots of Kanazawa, all within walking distance.

Michio has been an attentive and kind host. The house is new but built with hints of tradition and design. It's perfect for a group of four people (it's a whole house). We loved the traditional rooms with tatami and futons and the dining room. The house it's near a FamilyMart and a bakery, and not far from Higashi Chaya district.

Zaimokuan is a newly opened house. The design is based on an analysis of questionnaires for Hashiba-an which I've run since 2016. Many people are interested in a traditional house, but when they actually stay, they realize it is somewhat inconvenient. We recieved reviews like “cold in the winter”, “very small and steep stairs”, “we had to be careful with the noise level for close neighbors.” So, I've sought out more comfort for Zaimokuan: A convenient warm house equipped with TV which you can freely watch without disturbing neighbors and with a feeling of tradition. I wanted to solve all of the issues, so I decided to build from scratch. Despite the difficulties to meet all building standards and ordinances, it turned out great, thanks to the tremendous efforts made by many people. The key element of this house is the Fusuma painting on the sliding doors upstairs. You will be amazed by the painting created by Kahoko Ueshima, who works actively in the ParalymArt. She uses primary colors for her subjects and the dark colors for background, which creates good contrast to make subjects stand out. I believe her painting breathed new life into Zaimoku-an.
Hello travelers from around the world! My main business is real estate, but my interest in traditional houses led me to build this villa. I run this villa and "Hashiba-an". Kanazawa has its own charm: Traditional buildings, handcrafts, historical architecture, Sado or tea ceremony, Zen, and Noh or traditional performing arts. These are concentrated in the city and most of the attractions are located within walking distance. During my experience in learning about the tea ceremony, I started thinking about creating a simple and cozy accommodation. I wanted to put the charms of Kanazawa into one place, so I created this villa. Unfortunately, my tea ceremony teacher passed away years ago, but the time I spent with the teacher was truly delightful as we usually practiced after a hard day of work. It was such an enlightening experience as it was just two of us appreciating the beauty of the Kenroku garden in the tea house known as a Chashitsu. Kanazawa is known as Chanoyunomachi or a tea town. So I would highly recommend you experience the tea ceremony if you come to Kanazawa. You will be fascinated by the city and see it from a different perspective.
