Shymkent is a great place to visit - maybe in combination with Uzbekistan - as a basis for a fuller picture of Timurid attractions and not only. Shymkent itself is a pleasant city to explore and the nearby town of Turkestan and its whole area, a real gem! The hotel is centrally located, has western quality standards, it is absolutely clean, the staff is openminded, flexible and try to help for any problem. In addition, breakfast is good and wi-fi connection is fast and reliable. I am sure you will love it :-)

HungaryPleasant newish hotel in central Shymkent (actually not ON Turke Khan but in a leafy side street just off this main avenue).The reception staff was courteous and tried to be helpful, although their information on local public transport was a bit vague (they obviously expect foreign guests to use a taxi). My room was well equiped with an excellent bed and a spic-and-span bathroom. Breakfast was more than adequate with hot dishes made to order, although the coffee could have been better.
