This is such a nice town, good and plenty of food options. Lots of bars and the surrounding is very beautiful. You get spoiled here with waterfalls, hikes and so much greenery. Ella is a chilled laid back kind of place like Bali used to be, However the TukTuk Mafia are despicable rude, price gouging and trying to rip off every tourist. If you go to Ella take your own transport. You can rent your own TukTuks and Scooters. I encourage people to use Uber andPickme it works in Colombo. Honest TukTuk drivers are bullied in Ella As well as other tourist hubs in Sri Lanka.

Good starting place for visiting the mountain area of the country. Downtown noisy and inundated with tourists. Those who want a quieter but equally stunning settling but somewhat more limited in amenities may do better staying in a smaller and nearby setting. If you are taking the amazing train ride, do so ‘backwards’ and start in Ella area.

Nice Nature, but very touristic city center. Ella Rock walk is great, but you can leave out the entrance fee to the top - the view during the walk is way better, and the top can be very crowded. Little Adams Peak has a nice view on top, but the whole way is full of people who want to sell you stuff & a lot of tuktuks cross you while you are walking. That’s not really enjoyable. The Zip Line there is also overrated and expensive, wound not recommend that. Walking at the train tracks was a great experience. And explore the restaurants in the city, don’t go in the overcrowded places. I was at the Lion restaurant, which has great service, an amazing view(!) and really good food.

Unfortunately Ella which is a lovely spot with beautiful views and nature has been spoilt by too many people. Nice place in the mountains, but town itself is a tourist trash. You can find nice restaurants, tourist shops ... along loud bars and drunk and trashed tourists. Dont stay on the main street, rather take a calm place with views on a hill. The hotel organised the tuk tuk for us on our first day and we kept the drivers number as he was nice and cheap compared to others :) Ella town itself is so nice! The room had hot water available along with oven, mini fridge and electric kettle to make the stay even more comfortable.
