We booked three days on booking and really got used to it and decided to book for three more. There is a big comfortable bed, extra pillows and a mosquito net. There is an AC and a fan in the room, which makes such a big difference in this climate. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, with good recommendations and always ready to help. Extra towels and soaps were provided as well as an option to get the room cleaned during the stay. We stayed in a room far away from the road, and it had a small balcony with a sitting area and a place to dry laundry which was very helpful. Overall, a great value for money. There are places very close by to have a meal which was helpful as well.

Relaxing beach for surfing, beach walks, beach games & family time together.
Safe beach area & you get lots of nice cafes and restaurants to try out with a good range of food & drinks with music to enjoy. We really enjoyed Ceylon Sliders as our brunch spot & Cheeky monkey for dinner with some super cool music. Kurumba bay is super cool too for a range of food choices.

You go to Weligama to learn surfing, or otherwise use the beach.
Otherwise the place is maybe a bit too chaotic, dirty, and loud for European travellers ;)
There is garbage collection, but still a lot of garbage is lying around and ending up in the sea.

Weligama is small town.
Weligama is small town. We lived little outskirts in rural area, Weligama is cheaper than other distinations such as Mirissa nearby. However if one needs to party and need restaurants then you cannot find many at Weligama.
We were looking for quiet, relaxed and comparitively cheaper 15 days break between our two months vacation and Weligama helped us with same. Mirissa beach is more better and lively than Weligama Beach. However small section of beach near Cape Weligama resort via Kumbalgama junction is quiet and peaceful.
Having your own or rented vehicle is definitely plus point or else one has to hire Tuktuk to Mirissa which may cost 1000-1400 LKR To and Fro dependinging on your bargaining skills.
Once can definitely go to both mirissa, unwatuna and galle from Weligama on day excursions.

Weligama beach itself is very crowded and not very clean; however, there are amazing and practically empty beaches just a few minutes away. Options for restaurants like almost everywhere is a hit and miss, but I did find amazing and varied options for very good prices.
We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Shan Star! Shan couldn't have been more helpful, kind and accommodating. He went the extra mile to make sure we were happy, and just generally offered an outstanding service. This accommodation is unbeatable on price, and is the best value for money hotel we stayed in while visiting Sri Lanka. The breakfast was also great, with delicious fruit picked from the garden itself! Shan organised a great snorkelling excursion for us, which was fantastic too. I couldn't recommend this place enough!
We were met by very nice Reception, staff was very professional and attentive. While check in we had a welcome drink and were given a wifi password. It was iterally best Wifi connection. Room Ambalana is very spacious and garden is well looked after. Was very clean and guys followed all of our instructions on preparations. Pool is terrific, with ocean view. Nice point for sunset watching. the hotel also arranged us transfer to the next point very promptly and the driver was nice, polite and careful on the road
Thanushka - manager of the hotel - is a great guy! Really-really-really helpful and nice(thank you again for everything!). Also - and that's important - his English is quite good. At first I booked this place for 4 days - and ended up spent here 4 weeks out of my 6 weeks in Sri Lanka. Perfect value for money rate.
Cool view from the balcony - it's literally a sea in 20 meters.
The room styled really nicely. (colourful lamp and lightning in the photo are mine :)
The hotel is awesome! We stayed there for almost a week and I regret we could not stay longer.
The room was big and well furnished (which is unique for Sri Lankan hotels). There is a great place on the roof top for chilling and doing yoga. It is located in 2 minutes walk to the beach.
And the host was super helpful and friendly:)
Comparing to many overpriced hotels in the region, this one is simply top.
Clean room with two fans and mosquito nets. The outdoor shower/shared bathroom is very nice. A large veranda which you can use to chill is perfect! You can relax there, drink a coffee or even prepare a basic meal. A hotel is 10 min walk to the beach, close to restaurants and cafes. A perfect place, worth this price! The owners are extremally nice and helpfull! I booked for 2 nights but stayed 5.
-Incredibly hospitable hosts of the hotel, will help with any questions
- Clean, new hotel. Daily cleaning and drinking water in the room.
-Close to the beach, which has coral reefs, fish and is convenient with children. But It takes 10 minutes to get to the surf spot Weligama
- Amazing breakfasts.
We recommend this hotel to everyone!
It was amazing. The staff is the best I have ever met. The restaurant food and service was very impressive. The location of the hotel is exactly what I wanted. When I return to Sri Lanka again, and if I want to stay in the south of the island, then only at the Hotel Scenic Bay Weligama. Highly recommend this wonderful place!
Tinara River Resort is beautifully situated in a quiet spot on the river, providing peace and quiet only a short walk from the action on the beach. Nicely designed, the property and your hosts are full of warm Sri Lankan charm and truly want you to enjoy your stay to the fullest.
The room is big and clean but its very old. the bed is very squeaky and the furniture looks odd and old.
the room was quiet and clean which was most important to me. there was a mini bar also which was almost not there in any other hotel.
really nice hotel. was the perfect first stop on our Sri Lanka trip - 3 days ‘acclimatisation’ before we went on to the more local type of holidaying. and weligama is the best place for surfing on the island (from what we’ve seen)!
Friendly atmosphere, the owner was very supportive and helped us anytime it was needed. Hotel offers lot of different activities and help to organize trips around Sri Lanka. You can take a massage in the hotel which is AMAZING!
Beautiful small hotel, right on the beach. clean and modern.
The team was incredible, always took care of anything we needed.
Made the blackouts in Sri Lanka at the period we stayed almost seamless with their generators.
Location, view and facilities are unbeatable, it is literately one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. Service was very good. Staffs were very welcoming and always supportive. Food is very tasty with lots of variants.
The staff in the hotel was very friendly and the food was tasty. The hotel is quite clean and located near the ocean surfing spots, which makes it a great location for surf holidays.
I loved the amazing pool, the chilled atmosphere because it Is just a small hotel, the amazing Sri Lankan breakfast (which was a lot food) and of course the heart-warming staff!
