It is an amazing city surrounded by the lagoon and the beach...
It is an amazing city surrounded by the lagoon and the beach. The morning sunrise and the evening sunset is must see for all the travellars. The lagoon crabs and fish together with some tamil food should be a good stay. Pasikudah beach is just 30 mins away from the center city.

Nice place.
Nice place. Nothing exceptional in the way of sights but I found the town engaging. A pleasant place to spend a day. One word of warning - my bus didn't stop at the bus station but hammered through heading south. Fortunately my hotel was just off the bus route and the bridge is a major landmark so when I realised where I was it was easy to get a tuktuk to take me there. But ask the driver if the bus terminates at Batti!

Hot and dry weather, but superb beaches and tasty food. Please try to interact with the locals there. Do not just mind your business and leave. They are very friendly and sweet people. There are a lot we can learn from them. My favorite spots were the Kalladi region where there's only a little village by the sea.

It was great to stay on the lake eventually, at Riviera Resort which is central, and you could also walk to the beaches. This was after our bad experience at the previous place which we just left without even checking in. Relatively cheap, central, nice restaurant, superb service, clean and very functinal and spacious room and bathroom, 1980s style, but a clean and niceswimming pool, eagle nest, great views, and a great break going up the east coast. Most city points like Dutch fort, Batticaloa gate, Gandhi park, churches, Kallady bridge are nearby. Good for family leisure stay and also business travel on budget. Amazing location, just in front of the lagoon. Most importantly the owner was very nice and friendly. He arranged everything we asked within a short time. Can reach Kallady beach by five minute drive. Would highly recommend it for people mixing work and pleasure.
