Of course the only reason to stay here is for the prison experience. The modern shower is on the second floor and you can wander up there whenever you like during the dark, dark nights to enjoy the atmosphere and contemplate the dim cells that ordinary tourists can only glimpse briefly on tours. This experience made my stay totally worthwhile and is not something one would be likely to get in other prison tourist accommodations. Also, the main staff members are not just employees--they are knowledgeable enthusiasts and have been developing sights around Karosta for many years.

I loved how really knowledgeable and friendly the guide was. The guide offered an insightful tour of the building and shared the stories about its past, even though I arrived alone in the evening and the previous group tour had just finished. Such a warm welcome! :) Also, in the next morning I wanted to hike and see Wild Horses at the Latvian Pape Nature Park. So had to wake up early to get to the Liepaja bus station at 6.30 am. The guide gave a thoughtful advice about how early should one start off in the morning to get to the station timely. I was lucky because the nearby Oskars Kalpaks swing bridge was open. Anyway it is always a good idea to check the opening times of the bridge in advance ;)

Top-notch security, very friendly and accommodating staff and a very interesting tour full of history included in the price. The beds are rather basic but good enough to give a good night's rest. Additional blankets are provided at no extra cost. Mind you, this is not a regular hotel, but an experience for more adventurous guests who are willing to renounce modern conveniences.

Amazing experience and great staff. We arrived quite late, but the guide still walked us around, presented the museum and "the hotel", told a lot of stories. It's an adventure rather than a cosy hotel, but absolutely worth experiencing. Simple, but very tasty breakfast!

Staying one night at Karosta Prison was awesome! My favorite thing was that I asked if I can bring my dog with me and they said yes even though according to the general info pets are not allowed. There was a one-hour tour right before we went to sleep included in the price. Definitely not the most comfortable place, or if you want a relaxing holiday BUT totally recommended for an adventure holiday. It was a bit scary to sleep in the cell, the door only locks from the outside. If you're brave enough, it's definitely worth it!
