Emiliano Zapata is a neighborhood in old town central Puerto Vallarta with many bars, shops and hang outs. Close to the Malecon walkway with a Starbucks, Hard Rock Cafe and numerous restaurants with food from around the world. Emiliano Zapata is next to the Romantic Zone and known for its fresh organic Market place. The section of town is named after Amiliano Zapata, who along with Pancho Villa, was accredited for participation in the Mexican Revolution of 1914. The neighborhood borders Gringo gulch where John Houston and his film crew met daily for the filming of The Night of the Iguana 1963. After getting together with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, the whole crew would shove off from the Cuale river on water taxis to Mismaloya beach to film the movie. A statue of John Houston still remains near the entrance of the Cuale park today.
