Renzo is a very thoughtful and warm host. He checked with us frequently and offered helpful tips as knows the area well. The location is very good as it is close to many interesting and beautiful places. It was nice to be able to walk to town and to a wonderful cenote across the road from the property. When we did not want to go out to eat, there was kitchen ware and a stove in the lodging. We stayed in the large cabin that is well built- a palace of a Yurt- with a kitchen/bathroom addition. The property is quiet and we enjoyed being in the trees. We rented a car which was helpful for exploring but there are taxi's and collectivos which can be found in town (though we did not try on this trip).

Signa, United States of America

Great location off the tourist resourts. Has a jungle camp feeling and a beautiful natural park with beach is close by. Very friendly hosts. Would definitely come again! Thanks Don Renzo!

Michael, Indonesia

Renzo is an amazing host. If we come to this part of Mexico again , I would book and stay at Cavelands again! Wishing you all the best luck and big hug to the dogs - Blackie and the other one ! All the best from Mark and James

Mark, Slovenia

Renz is a great host, so chilled out and easy going. Loved his dogs Blackie & Lola too! The shower was perfect, nice and hot which I've found to be a rarity in Central/South America. The property itself is beautiful, we enjoyed our stay so much it was hard to leave. We stayed in one of the cabanas and loved it, it was safe, comfortable and felt very exotic. The kitchen is stocked up with all the cooking equip you need, and there's a washing machine to utilise too. The little town of Chemuyil is only 10/15 mins walk down the road, Tulum is easily reached by colectivo (a short 10 min drive) and the most beautiful beach & cenote are only 20 mins walk away. Perfect really! I highly recommend staying here, you will thank yourself.

Megan, United Kingdom

rustic camping expeience...a very novel experience for the family on a mexico trip. The place is safe and you meet amazing people there. Cenote was super cool and we swam in it.

Susan, Canada

Nature, the laid back atmosphere and the kind, spontaneous host.

Petra, Belgium

Amazing hidden place in the jungle. Close to the small village of chemuyl. Away from the crowds this is a magical place with really nice cabañas. The small village has great food and vibe. Not touristic place at all. We loved it!

Philippa, Spain

Property in the jungle, possibility to share small kitchen with the owner Renzo. Don't expect too much comfort, it's not a hotel. Nice cabins and nice Restaurant in town nearby.

Béatrice, Germany

Beautifil expwrience with my girlfriend! Everything was amazing! Renzo is a sweet human being, his kingdom is a paradise!

Mauricio, Brazil

The cabana is beautiful, comfortable with a stunning 360^ view on the jungle. The location is fantastic, in the jungle, close to a truly Mayan little town where you can buy food and all you need and where you can have a great dinner in its good restaurants. The closest beach (5 min driving, but lot of people went there walking) it is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Xcacel: Wild, protected, white sand and turquoise sea, turtles from May to November, with a gorgeous cenote where you can swim. In 10 mins you can go to Akumal and in 10 to Tulum. Staying at Caveland has been exactly what we want (my husband, my two sons and me). All the comfort far from the crowd in a stunning place. No mosquitoes at all, a lovely hammock where we read and rest. Renzo, the host, is a fantastic person, always genuinely keen to help. He can give you great information about place to see o where to eat. We cannot thank him enough. We have loved everything in Caveland. I will definitely come back.

Renzo

Cavelands is located 2 kilometers from the village of Chemuyil, 20 kilometers from Tulum. If you want to avoid massive tourism, and spend a few night in the Peace of the Jungle, you're going to love the Cabanas of Caveland. Nice cosy rooms, and even a private cenote in the back of the property. You can swim, explore, and enjoy the silence of the caves. A paradise for birds watchers !

I am Renzo and bought some land here 20 years ago. Over the years, I developed the land into a retreat among Nature, where people can enjoy the night in cabanas in the jungle. I am from Holland and escaped from the fast life up there.

We are close to Akumal and Xel Ha, Playa del Carmen and Tulum are easy to reach by small buses, named collectivos, which stop in the village Chemuyil. Cavelands is very close to the turtle sanctuary Xcacel ,which is a beautiful natural beach. There are also many cenotes in the area.

9.6 “This place was amazing! We stayed in one of the cabanas in the middle of the jungle. Nicely decorated with a big, fancy bed with mosquito nets (which we didn't need). The owner, Renzo, greeted us as we walked up and showed us to our cabana. We were pleasantly surprised to hear that he was Dutch. Hammocks for relaxing, cooking facilities, nice shower, safe for storing valuables while swimming. There is a private cenote on the property that we enjoyed swimming in, as well as several other cenotes within walking distance. We did not have a car, but I recommend one, as the 10-15 minute walk to and from town was challenging in the heat with kids and there is no shade along the road. The village has a good restaurant where we ate a few times. The supermarket doesn't have much selection (no reliable refrigeration), so stock up before arriving if possible. The beach (a turtle sanctuary) is also within walking distance, but you have to cross the highway to get there. Beautiful beach that closes at 5 pm daily to give the wildlife a chance to recover. I can't recommend this place enough!”

Booking.com Guest Review Guidelines

To keep the rating score and review content relevant for your upcoming trip, we archive reviews older than 24 months.

Only a customer who has booked through Booking.com and stayed at the property in question can write a review. This allows us to verify that our reviews come from real guests like you. Who better to tell others about the free breakfast, friendly staff, or their comfortable room than someone who’s stayed at the property?

We want you to share your story, with both the good and the not-so-good. All we ask is that you follow a few simple guidelines.

Reviews Vision

We believe review contributions and property responses will highlight a wide range of opinions and experiences, which is critical in helping guests make informed decisions about where to stay.

Reviews Principles

Contributions to Booking.com are a reflection of the dedication of our guests and properties, so we treat them with the utmost respect.

Whether negative or positive, we'll post every comment in full, as quickly as possible, after it's moderated to comply with Booking.com guidelines. We'll also provide transparency over the status of submitted content.

After a review has been submitted, you can modify it by contacting Booking.com customer service.

We'll use the same guidelines and standards for all user-generated content, and for the property responses to that content.

We'll allow the contributions to speak for themselves, and we won’t be the judge of reality. Booking.com’s role is to be a feedback distributor for both guests and properties.

Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

눉Without a car, it is a hike to get to available public transport (along the main road).

눇We stayed in largest palapa with the bathroom and two double beds. The room was charming and the bathroom was large. Loved the round living space and the porch with the hammock. We did not have a car but the walk to town was about 15 minutes and to main road (where we caught vans to Tulum) was about 15-20 minutes. The small cenote on the site was not that exciting but the large one across the road was wonderful and magical. Enjoyed our meal at the town restaurant (La Palapas) - the large expatriate community on the edge of town eats there. Don Renzo was helpful in getting us taxi rides when needed. We used the communal kitchen two evenings, which was very handy (but not sparkling clean). In our room there was a hotplate and some plates, a few pots and silver in the room, but the communal kitchen was much preferable. Don supplied purified water. We love camping - being in the jungle, awakening to bird song and breezes, but in a comfy bed with indoor bathroom was just our thing!

      눉Everything was great

눇Renz is a great host, so chilled out and easy going.

눇This place was amazing! I can't recommend this place enough!

      눉N O T H I N G!

눇The cabana is beautiful, comfortable with a stunning 360^ view on the jungle.

눇It's a unique place to stay in the middle of jungles, still in 15 min walking distance from the nice restaurant. 눉You need to like dogs - Renzo's are very lively!

눇Lovely sturdy cabaña, surrounded by native trees - (with a chewing gum tree just by our hammock!) and a good distance from the next cabana. Great mosquito screens and ventilation. Near kitchen and bathroom houses. Wonderful cenotes (natural pools) all around and a sweet beach. Also loved having a pretty little village just 10 mins walk away, with good public transport, basic shops and a good restaurant. Renzo went out of his way to make us feel at home.Thank you!
