I'm a bit bias because my parents used to live in Taupo and we spent a lot of time in Taupo. Love Taupo for its vibrant feel, the eateries, the scenery of course the shops and the lake. Everything about Taupo is great.
Could live there but we live in Australia.

Lake Taupo is simply stunning.
Lake Taupo is simply stunning. A gorgeous lake with mountain views. Clear blue waters which are clean and safe to swim. Water temperature was 21c during our (February) which is just fine for a dip. So good that parking by the lake was free! Saves the hassle of finding change / or downloading whatever parking app! And the town offers so many excellent cafes, shops and bars all within a short walk away. Plus it feels safe to walk and everywhere is so clean. Including the air! Huka Falls are a must-see-place - just 6 or so km from the hotel to drive and check out Rangatira Park Lookout on the way if time (picture of view of the Lake from the lookout).

Taupo was a great stop for us.
Taupo was a great stop for us. The Huka jet boat was great fun and worth the money. The falls are great and a must visit. Craters of the Moon was also worth seeing. There is good shopping in town, much more than we expected, and some nice cafes/restaurants.

There was a market day with many artists and craftspeople showing their wares. The restaurants on the waterfront were buzzing. We went to Baku because it was the closest to where we parked. It was a great choice and we both had a late breakfast there before continuing our travel. We really didn't spend any time other than the market and brunch as we were passing through. I will stay a couple of days on my next visit to look around further. There is plenty to do if you make the time.

We were there for the Ironman event super busy great to see Taupo buzzing with lots of people, great for retailers. Beautiful place be good they had the markets on too. Fill the town with lots happening. Since it’s an international event. Friday and Saturday
Loved our stay at The Hilton Taupo. Our room had an amazing sweeping views across the lake to the mountains. We stayed in a 1bdrm apartment which was the perfect size for our young family of 3. The room was a fantastic size so we could all stay comfortably. The pool and gym is great and very clean, gardens beautifully kept. But the staff are the best thing we think; from front desk to house keeping everyone was very helpful, laid back but attentive, warm, friendly and professional at every exchange. We will def go back.
We loved every aspect of our stay at Hilltop Whakaipo. The place was comfy, nice, and clean. The breakfast was great as well as the hosts. We were fortunate to have some morning tour around the farm and it was a lifetime experience too as someone who grows up and lives in city. I would recommend this place for everyone who are planning a trip to Lake Taupo. Although it’s a bit far from the downtown, close enough to enjoy a scenic drive and you will enjoy the view of Lake Taupo from distance too.
The room was generally quiet, although the design of the hotel means that any noise in the corridor will reverberate through the room.
The room was large (beds for 3) and was fairly comfortable.
Check in was painless.
Bathrooms & kitchen were spotlessly clean & there was adequate utensils for preparation of meals.
Appreciated the undercover parking & the short walk to the main commercial area of Lake Taupo.
A recommended budget stay.
We booked eMotel in a whim, we just needed a place to stay in Taupo on our way south. I'm happy to say we'd 100% stay again. The rooms are large, clean and for us anyway the added bonus of a washer/dryer. We made full use of that as we'd been traveling for a while. The motel is on a very quiet street only a minutes walk from stunning Lake Taupo. Super friendly owners, our only regret is we didn't stay longer.
We loved everything about our time at Acacia Cliffs. The home is lovely with an incredible view of Lake Taupo. Neil was a wonderful host, and we enjoyed spending time in the morning chatting with him. Unfortunately, Neil’s wife Stephanie was out of town visiting family, so we didn’t get the chance to meet her. We hope to return at some point in the future!
Good location by the lake (not lake front, but few steps away). Few minutes drive to the LoveTaupo signage and town center. Excellent staff offering lots of useful info. Parking right at the door step of the apartment. For the room we stayed in, king bed on the ground level, 3 single twin-size bed on the 2nd floor loft. Two bathrooms.
Our Hosts Peter & Michelle were amazing! Very sociable and humble couple. The Lakeview room was top notch, beats any hotel room in Taupo. Freshly cooked bacon & Eggs, hash browns plus barista style coffee - Best I’ve had outside of Wellington. The views are cherry on the cake. Definitely staying there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Lake Motel. Owners were very accommodating to our needs in regards to our two dogs. Well organised, lovely toiletry products, the best shower ever, comfortable, warm and private. Definitely top of our list for places to stay in Taupo. Looking forward to our next visit.
Great location by the lake for a walk in the morning. Great cafe too. Easy parking, easy check in. I've stayed a few times on business trips. Once it was a little bit noisy with other guests coming in loud and late, but that's not the hotel's fault. SUPER clean. One of my favorite Taupo hotels.
Great motel right across the street from Lake Taupo and within easy walking distance of the downtown restaurants and shops. Very spacious room with a comfortable bed, large bathroom and small kitchenette. Nice area to sit outside and look at the lake and easy parking close to the room.
The staff was super friendly and kind. The room was huge and very very clean. We had a room with spa bath which was great too! I was surprised that all the beds had an electric blankets. Everything you want was there!
I will definitely go back when I stay at Taupo. Thank you!!
My family holiday in Taupo every year, we have been staying at Le Chalet Suisse for the past 10 years. It has everything we need, pool, spa, spa bath, beautiful view of the lake, great staff, and amazing location, easy walking distance to town and resturants.
This is a very quiet location in a South Taupo neighbourhood; easy walk down the hill to the lake pathway (3 km or so into centre of town) and the Botanical Reserve.
Great to have the washing machine & outdoor clothes line.
Really appreciated the muesli.
The location was perfect just a walk down the motel path to beautiful lake Taupo. Virtually a lake on your back doorstep . Lake was so clear and clean to swim in.
Very quiet and considerate neighbours all around. Bikes and kayaks available to hire.
Spacious, well equipped kitchen and living room including media. Quite impressed with bedrooms and bathrooms. Perfect for a short family escape or couples retreat.
Great location, approx 15 meter walk to the Great Lake Taupō.
Wonderful room with a picturesque interior design, spacious bath room, and a great view on Lake Taupo with its ducks, geese, and black swans. Nice restaurant. Compared to other hotels: excellent Wi-Fi with high speeds.
Being across the road from the lake and easy walking distance into Taupo town center,
Malcolm was a great host and our double apartment was finished to a high standard.
We will definitely stay again when in Taupo.
