The penguin sanctuary was lovely and we saw penguins during the day in the nests. The evening tour was fully booked so get in early if you want to do that.. The steam punk museum was suitably odd and they were very friendly when we got caught in a downpour and stayed sheltering there while they were closing. Plenty of chance to see seals basking on the foreshore.
The victorian precinct however was just a street - possibly more exciting if you are from New Zealand of Australia but we live in a property older than anything on the street so not really that exciting if you are from the UK or the older cities in the US

A very pleasant surprise, was recommended to stop here by a friend, so glad we did. A quirky place , so much history. The Victorian quarter alone was wonderful. Steampunk also worth a look. Easy to walk around the town too. Ps some hilly streets 😀

This is a hidden gem of a town with unique stone architecture and history. I am biased because I worked here for two months years ago. Be sure to visit the garden and use the pool facilities if you have the time. And to top it off it is close to the Moreike Boulders... a must see.

Love Oamaru - I have family there so go often.
Love Oamaru - I have family there so go often. Always a must is Riverstone just outside oamaru and a castle tour and meal there and the shopping - magnificent. Of consequence there is also.the historic precinct with Miss Purple and Donna de Mente gallery.and don't forget to grab a cronut (croissant/doughnut meld) from harbour st bakery
Cucins has wonderful food and well worth a visit.
What I would like to make booking.comaware of is that it popped up after I had booked that I could pay $x more for a private bathroom.. I had stayed there b4 so wZ aware it would be odd not to have private bathroom. I checked with motel and the bathroom was private - what if I had pushed thst button to pay more ? Likely would be no wiser which sucks really

Steampunk HQ is sensational. As is the Victoria District.
Steampunk HQ is sensational. As is the Victoria District. Great 'whitestone' structures everywhere. ATMs, supermarkets, cafes, take-aways offer a great choice. Penguin parade is sensational. Great arty / souvenir / gift shops in Victoria District. Good little local cinema. Great beaches to walk along. Easy drive to Moeraki Boulders and Elephant Rocks. Easy drive to Dunedin. Friendly pub and cafe staff. A great little town overall - would love to go back.
The bed were comfortable and the shower was great not a bath that you had to step into. Extra blankets if we needed and pillows. It was clean and very comfortable. Unfortunately the lift was out of order but otherwise enjoyed are stay and was very central especially to Steam punk headquarters so we could walk to most places. Oamaru is a lovely town and would highly recommend people going their to visit and stay at the Brydone Hotel.
The studio is clean, artsy and full of creative objects, bed and pillows super comfy.
Bathroom is large and very clean.
There's a kattle, coffee, tea, toaster and microwave and a nice little area where to have your meal.
Room has both a heat pump and heating sistem and it is very private with curtains and separate access.
Trish and Gary are very welcoming and ready to give you all the info needed about Oamaru.
Price super affordable!
Absolutely stunning historic home! I had a very comfortable historic room with a beautiful modern ensuite. The room had a fridge, toaster, french press, and kettle with teas, coffee, sugar, and milk provided. Breakfast was simple and delicious, beautifully presented and delivered to your room. Keri is a wonderful host. If you ask, she will provide some of the history of the home and Oamaru. Wonderful stay!
This hotel is beautiful! The steampunk esthetic was both glamorous and highly creative. The two women we dealt with could not have been nicer and our ski themed room was huge and comfortable. It had a living area with a huge TV and comfy leather sofa. The bedroom also had a TV. The town is so much fun who has time for TV! Breakfast was amazing as well - plenty to choose from in a lovely huge room.
This residence is fabulous facing the sea and surrounded with green plants; the inside of the residence offers all the facilities like a five-star hotel and looks artistic and neat; the owner is caring, loving and considerate; when I arrived it was raining and wet, she offered pickup and sendoff from and to the InterCity bus stop; No.1 choice when you have a chance to visit Aoruma!
Poshtel is one of the quirkiest (in a good way!) hotels we have ever stayed in. Each room has its own theme - ours seemed to be music, in particular, brass instruments! We loved the vibe, the locations, the facilities, the warm welcome and informal 'self service' breakfast. A perfect base for a couple of days in Oamaru.
The building looks more like a house than a hotel. There were many decorations in the house, especially decirations of penguins, which made it very lovley. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. There was also a massage chair.
The accommodation is also very close to all the major attractions in Oamaru.
Absolutely stunning property with a real feeling of
luxury. Hosts made us feel very welcome, providing lots of information and suggestions of places to eat and visit in the area. Would love to return for another stay and will highly recommend to others. Loved the little welcome treat too.
The room was spacious and clean. The innkeeper was super kind and attentive. We decided at the last minute during our New Zealand tour to spending one night in Oamaru to see the penguin march and felt lucky for finding this place.
Tiny house on the rise with a fantastic view over the port and bay of Oamaru. Also view down to the historic precinct which is within walking distance . might be small, but comfortable with everything one might need.
Gorgeous heritage house. Beautifully comfortable room. Loved all the special little touches and attention to detail. Jacqui was a fabulous host and would highly recommend staying here when visiting Oamaru
Our rooms at Midway motel were clean comfortable and very affordable. Host was helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. It's a convenient hotel for visiting the beautiful town of Oamaru. Would stay again.
What an exceptional place to stay. very warm and spaceous. Fantastic setup and so comfortable. One of the best places we have stayed. Definitely recommend as the place to stay in Oamaru.
Such a peaceful retreat after two weeks of hotel after hotel! We wish we'd been able to stay longer to unwind and to explore the farm and chapel and to learn more about the history of the place!
I loved the rural location, the peace & quiet of the beautiful countryside; the farm animals & Jenny was very friendly & helpful.
I'd love to return for a longer stay to explore Oamaru further.
Modern room in a beautiful old hotel. Well located in the historic area of Oamaru and easy walking distance to shops and Steampunk HQ. I appreciated the large tub/shower in the bathroom.
The Villa is an amazing Victorian house nestled in the middle of Oamaru. The house is comfortable and everything you need to make it a home away from home is provided.
