We had a wonderful stay at Karamana. The historic homestead was so beautiful and full of character, history and lovingly preserved by many owners over the years. Out hosts were very hospitable and the home made breakfasts and baking was just delightful and most appreciated.

New ZealandI booked the cottage because we like places with character, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Our host was very friendly and helpful and even provided great cookies on arrival. If you are looking for a bright shiny new place this is not for you, but if you want to stay in a building from the 1860's this has plenty of rustic charm and originality. Having said that all of the necessary modern features are there to ensure a comfortable stay.

New ZealandNo breakfast. Facilities were great and well appointed- we are talking about a very early 1800s NZ stables converted into accommodation. My only comment would be a heated towel rail would have been wonderful! - but hey that’s being a bit “nit-picky”! Our host gave us a wonderful in-depth geology lesson and history lesson of Coromandel. Wonderful.

We are a Category 2 listed homestead built in 1872 during a gold rush in Coromandel Town. The house is built from amazing kauri wood, milled from this very valley. The original owner, Jerome Cadman, was the local saw-miller who eventually became the Minister of Native Affairs and then the Minister of Mines. The homestead has been a B&B since before the term was even invented! Karamana (formerly Cadman House) was frequented by horsemen travelling from Whangapoua and would stop here for the night, a meal and to have their horses tended to. We'd certainly call that a B&B! Although we don't look after horses now, we do have ample parking for your vehicle :-) Mrs. Francis "Fanny" Cadman was an avid gardener who loved her roses. In her honour we are re-establishing some amazing roses for guests to enjoy. A unique French Birdcage gazebo has recently been installed on the property and is a wonderfully romantic complement to the homestead. Our homestead is full of character and charm that just can't be replicated. It holds stories and a history that you can feel the moment you arrive, and you'll know you're in for something extraordinary.
Ash and Ann-Marie Franklyn welcome you to Karamana Homestead. Ash (a geologist and gold-mine historian) has a long history in tourism and continues to operate his Wild Gold Panning Adventures in addition to running the homestead. Ann-Marie has a background in Law, but also worked as a travel agent for several years. Her personality was a natural fit to transition into the hospitality world. Both Ash and Ann-Marie genuinely enjoy meeting people from around the world and look forward to showing them something out of the ordinary to make their holidays in New Zealand extra special.
We are located 840 meters from Coromandel Town (a very easy walk or a short car ride). We're close enough to town to enjoy all it has to offer, but just far enough away to appreciate the quiet rural countryside setting. You'll find excellent restaurants and interesting shops all on the main street. Whangapoua and New Chum beach are only a 20 minute drive away. Lovely walking tracks (and even some kauri!) from the town centre. Experience Wild Gold Panning, which is in keeping with the history of the town. Enjoy a guided walking tour of town and hear all about the great fire! Hire an e-bike and go exploring town and beyond. Ride a narrow-gauge train and learn about some peculiar and quirky pottery. For a small town, Coromandel Town offers a variety of interests for all ages to enjoy.
