At the entrance to the Tapu-Coroglen road, Kōtare Cabin sits on a large, secluded property, accessible via an 800-meter driveway, ensuring a peaceful retreat. The elevated site provides breathtaking views of Tapu Village, the beach, and the Firth of Thames. The private, studio cabin is constructed from timber, glass, and corrugated iron, featuring a unique blend of rustic and modern design elements. A covered walkway leads to both the bathroom and a fully contained kitchen, providing convenience and comfort during your stay. The cabin is carefully nestled into a sheltered, elevated area, with vegetative screening enhancing the feeling of privacy and being in nature. The property has a rich history, having been a farm and now in the process of regenerating back into its original bush habitat over the past 30 years.
Barrie and Lesley have lived on the property since 1984. They're welcoming and knowledgeable of the local area.
Tapu is a charming coastal village on the Thames Coast of New Zealand's Coromandel Peninsula. Surrounded by lush native bush, Tapu is a short drive to scenic bush walks, local art studios, Rapaura Watergardens, and the Square Kauri. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy charters directly from Tapu or bring their own equipment for rock fishing. The safe, sandy beach is ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. Tapu is conveniently located 20kms from the historic town of Thames and 35kms from the picturesque Coromandel Town, making it easy to explore local attractions and amenities. Dining options in the village include the Royal Oak Hotel or take-aways from the Tapu Store. The Tapu Store also provides essential groceries and boasts a fuel station. The Thames Coast is known for its stunning coastal views and outdoor activities, while the Coromandel Peninsula offers pristine beaches, rugged mountains, and unique attractions like Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove.
