Iris and Peter Tait are a passionate couple who go the extra mile to make sure that you get the most out of your stay on Stewart Island, right from pick up to drop off, with oodles of information and recommendations, as well as the included Ulva Island tour, which has opened our eyes to future walks through the Bush. Their accommodation is superb and like home from home, with lots of unexpected extras, especially the local ginger biscuits! In hindsight, we think four nights would be better than the three we booked.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the hosts, Peter and Iris. The location was really good for getting to and from the town. The supply of apples for feeding the Kaka, which were so much fun. Spending time with the other guests in the two living areas and the very well stocked kitchen. The informative tour of Ulva Island.

This is a superb place to stay. Peter & Iris just make it home from home. Lovely bedroom and the view from the sitting room was stunning. Peter took s to Ulva for the morning telling us about the plants and trees and also found us the birds we wanted.

This property is a 4-minute walk from the beach. Overlooking Halfmoon Bay and the islands of the Foveaux Straits, Kowhai Lane Lodge is just 5 minutes’ walk from the waterfront. A 4-hour Ulva Island tour is included in your accommodations rate. All accommodations offers a TV and electric blankets.

Set on Stewart Island, Kowhai Lodge is surrounded by lovely gardens, home to many species of native birds. It is 6 minutes’ walk from the ferry terminal and ferries to Bluff. There is a free bus transfer to and from the air terminal.

Accommodations options include private rooms and self-contained apartments. All are heated and offer a private bathroom with a shower and a hairdryer.

Included in the rate is a 'Sails' Ulva Island Open Sanctuary tour with the following details:
- Tours can start early morning or late afternoon
- 4 hour return trip
- Departs from the accommodations, guests are taken to the water's edge and on a 10-minute boat ride
- Guests arrive at Ulva Island open sanctuary and are then taken by the guide on a 0.9 mi easy walk
- Guest return via boat back to the accommodations
- Tour usually consists of approximately 6 people
