Our cabin, Kaku, surrounded by trees and birdlife, overlooked rolling green fields dotted with sheep and the surrounding hills. It was so peaceful. Within 2 minutes walk were magical forest paths lined with magnificent tree ferns, crown ferns and undisturbed vegetation. The cabin was beautifully decorated, and contained books on the area, games, a well equipped small kitchen with a barbecue on the balcony. The old house on the estate was built in the 1920s and creates a feeling of timelessness. The owners helpfully supplied local history and tourist information and were so welcoming. We would have happily stayed longer in this unique oasis of tranquility and nature and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates these special qualities.

  • Hi we are looking at 14-16 of January, we have 2 dogs where will they be okay?

    Hi we do allow dogs at Mohua Park but they are not allow in the cottages under any circumstances, they can be on the deck and must be on a lead if you are walking round .A $250 cleaning fee will apply if dogs are found to be in the cottage.

Property info

Mohua Park : A beautifully remote 8 hectare protected forest reserve situated 16 km south of Owaka, in the Catlins Valley, 4 Self contained eco cottages, offering complete privacy, supreme comfort and a chance to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle. The cottages are self catering with small kitchens, well appointed 4 seat dining as well as cosy couches and occasional seating. Outside, sit and relax on the deck with a glass of wine, coffee. Being self contained, we advise you purchase all necessary food, drinks and grocery items for your stay prior to arrival. Please contact us if you have any questions relating self-contained accommodation and what is supplied for you. Life at Mohua Park is about sustainability and keeping our lives uncluttered. A Continental Breakfast and BBQ packs are also available for purchase and are both an add on at the time of booking. The Catlins - Living life as it should be!!

Neighborhood info

Time is the only factor in how much you will see!! Within easy walking distance, you can visit the site of the old Tawanui township, see the old historic Tawanui saw mill across the road. The historic Tawanui Railway buidings re-situated by the pond on the corner of our property. Tramp part, or all, of the Catlins River Track. The Catlins River Track passes through mature native beech forest where mohua, rifleman parakeet and other birds may be seen plus excellent trout fishing within walking distance from your cottage. Drive the Southern Scenic route south to some of the most spectacular waterfalls, board walks and low impact bush walks. You'll find we have some of the most stunning beaches, regardless, if the weather is wild and the surf even wilder, or in bright sunshine, for a keen photographer the shots are simply magic. The fur seals, sea lions and yellow eyed penguins are just a few treats to be found here in The Catlins.
