Called the 'City of Sails' due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbour, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly offers a blast!
Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sporting events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of the Viaduct Harbour.
Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 192 metres!
Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?
Getting to the city centre is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect accommodation for your holiday.
auckland has something for everyone. From the bustling harbour to the art galleries and museums
The Sky tower is a must
Tonys steak and seafood restaurant is also a must for the best fillet steak in town
A trip on the ferry to Waiheke island or over to Devonport is a great option
Prepare to do a lot of walking. Auckland is easy to navigate but one word of warning is that it is steep !

The Viaduct harbor area has great 'feel' about it, loved sitting in the harbor restaurants and watching the world go by.
Plenty of food options to choose from.
The ferry terminal is a 5 minutes walk from the Boutique viaduct apartment.
I took a ferry over to Devonport, inexpensive and the ferries run frequently all day and into the evening.
Walking around was ok for me but if you have walking difficulties possible you may want to reconsider your destination.
That written the information center is close by (very helpful ladies) and sorted me out a trip to the geysers.
There are plenty of outlets close by if shopping is your thing.
Mcd's and other fast food outlets as well.
Maritime museum is well worth a visit.
Stacks of photo opportunities in the area.
If sailing is your thing, there are plenty of yachts to choose from.
The Wynyard Quarter (a short walk over the bridge) offers many restaurants of different tastes.
The Sky Tower (good views of Auckland) is within walking distance (20 minutes from viaduct harbour) but some hills to walk up.
It did get chilly when the sun went down so would recommend a light jacket or hoody.
I stayed in Auckland for 4 days, I did everything I want to do.

Skytower is certainly worth the visit if the weather is good - we visited on a rainy cloudy day but it was still an amazing view.
The Auckland Viaduct and Harbour was nice to walk around and explore, including seeing the Viaduct pedestrian bridge open to let a resident yacht in!
We had lunch at the Viaduct at Headquarters, a casual bar and restaurant.
For dinner, we caught up with friends at the hotel bar and then ate at the churrascaria restaurant Wildfire right across the street at the cruise terminal, which was fabulous if you love churrasco - and yes they had some veggie options.

Booking. com failed to advise that A Bond needed to be paid.
Booking. com failed to advise that A Bond needed to be paid. I was taken aback when the Owner asked for a $250 bond which I thought was a bit excessive considering I paid a bond of $100 at another Motel. But was assured the bond would be refunded once I leave the premises.
Maybe add this on to the Features of the all up cost or even mention this.As I told the Reception when I went to pay and then told me the amount of the bond I nearly flipped,The guy did show me but wasn’t shown on the App itself unless a failed to see it

We took a cruise that started in Sydney and ended in Auckland. We stayed in Sydney for 3 days pre-cruise and in Auckland for 3 days post cruise. In our opinion, Sydney far outclassed Auckland for tourists. The waterfront and Opera House were scenic and vibrant with lots of official representatives walking about the crowds to answer questions and give directions. The public transportation was easy & cheap (including dozens of ferry routes) Tourists may use their own credit cards to tap on and tap off the metro, trains, buses, etc.
Auckland by contrast was more of a work-a-day city that did not seem to cater to or value the visitor. The bus system required the purchase of a special card with very few outlets where they could be purchased. The Auckland Museum admitted New Zealanders for free but charged tourists a significant entrance fee.
Lodging costs in Sydney were high but in Auckland price gouging was the practice. If we ever return to New Zealand, we'll skip Auckland altogether.
Rooms ate super comfy with lots of space. Enormous beds with crisp clean sheets make for a great night sleep. Housekeeping do a fabulous job in keeping Rooms clean and tidy.
Friendly knowledgeable concierge team who are always on hand when needed, always greeted us with a smile.
Love that the express Airport bus drop off/pick up and Intercity buses are located at the back of the hotel...so easy to get to.
Short walk to city centre and shopping.
Great hotel near the Auckland Rose Park. Our hotel room had a beautiful view of the park! This was walking distance to the water. There was also a great selection of cafes and restaurants and bars on Parnell Road which was a short walk away. We even walked to downtown Auckland so everything was accessible. We loved the free parking for our car. We loved that this was a quiet location (as compared to the CBD). WiFi was good.
The Auckland City Hotel looks really cool inside and it’s interesting to read about its history. The location was exactly what we were looking for to experience and explore downtown Auckland. It’s a stones throw from Sky City, which was perfect. Room service from the restaurant downstairs was also a big plus as we got in late and didn’t want to take the kids out into the city at night.
Great reception staff, very professional and well mannered. Very helpful & informative. Room + general guest areas very clean. Smoking/ Vaping was allowed on balconies, great upside as it is not allowed in most hotels across Auckland CBD.
Great downtown location, close to entertainment areas + supermarket.
Its a shame you do not have your own parking building but that is super minor.
Spacious, comfortable, clean, modern unit with plenty of free parking on site. A 4 minutes drive from Auckland Airport infact it is a walkable distance. Close to food outlets and superette. Very comfortable bed with good quality cotton linen and clean pillow protectors on nice pillows.
Staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Would definitely stay again when I'm in Auckland.
This was the first Hotel to stay on our 5 week holiday of New Zealand and definitely didn't disappoint. Especially loved the location, staff in all aspects of Hotel were great. Parking easy accessible to Hotel. We only ate breakfast in Hotel & that was Ok. Have already given recommendations to friends who are visiting Auckland in the next few months. Thank you Movenpick
The hotel is directly in the CBD and is a little tricky to find if driving for the first time. It was perfectly located to everything central. I felt it pricey for the offerings. The staff were all great and attentive. I'm just not sure how it differentiates to the SO/Auckland or the others in the area to charge the extra vs. what the other hotels in the area offer.
It was a very nice hotel at a reasonable price! Close to the airport and it takes approx 20 minutes to travel to the CBD via uber. I really love the self check-in and check-out service as it is just efficient. Has never seen one before in any hotels but it's a quick process rather than having to queue up at the counter.
The room is spacious and comfortable.
The hotel is located in the Sofitel at the Viaduct harbour. It is within easy walking distance of Auckland downtown and there is also a bus the leaves quite close. The room is very well appointed with a coffee machine, very comfy bed, excellent bathroom with a shower and tub. The lady at the desk was very friendly as were the cleaning staff.
The hotel had everything we needed for a single night's accommodation near Auckland airport at the start of a New Zealand holiday. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. The breakfast was very good and just what we needed to start our journeys. The hotel also had ample parking available which was useful as we had a hire car.
Great property close to the airport. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotels own shuttle service was great, called from the airport and picked up soon after and got dropped off at car hire the next morning. Friendly staff, will definitely stay here the next time we are passing through Auckland.
Excellent location, good easy parking right next to the hotel which was cheaper than most places, rooms where super clean and well set-up, including cooking facilities and a washing machine and dryer in the room. Best hotel ive stayed in Auckland, Will stay there every time I stay in the city now
Very nice standard airport hotel. Bonus that they have a free shuttle, are very close to the Auckland Airport, have a restaurant on site and breakfast buffet that is included! It also made it very easy to get on the road south the next morning without having to deal with Auckland traffic.
Location fantastic, we took the local bus into the city to get around and the bus was directly outside. Parking at the hotel was free unlike other hotels in the centre of Auckland. The room was clean and tidy with plenty of space. Breakfast was good value
We were in Auckland for one night prior to our international trip. The Ocean breeze hotel is situated in a quiet area within 30 minutes of the airport in off peak times. Free parking. Great views. A little dated but a great start to our holidays
The hotel has a good car parkinf, and it isn't too far from Auckland airport. The bed was comfortable, and the room size was good. The hotel is new so everything was in good condition. The breakfast was very adequate with enough choices.
We loved the breakfast included in the stay. The location was perfect for meeting friends and enjoying the city. The parking around was very helpful. When we came back to Auckland, will check this wonderful hotel to stay in again.
Proximity to the sky city which is a direct bus service from Auckland Airport. Staffs are friendly. Room is clean and bed is comfy. We were invited to the Maori New Year breakfast.
