Excellent hosts, super food. Husband and wife team stand for the best of New Zealand. Very willing to help and allow their washing machine and dryer to be used for a small fee. It is these small touches that make the porters lodge experience so wonderful.

Great atmosphere for a casual overnight stay. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and easygoing. The view from our room was absolutely beautiful overlooking the valley down towards the north. The evening meal was fantastic with even our son eating his whole burger which is unheard of! Plenty of things to do around the lodge with mountain biking up porters, fishing along the rivers, and bouldering or walking around Castle Hill. We will pop back again.

Perfect location - felt you were miles away from everywhere but in reality just over an hour away from Christchurch Airport. Awesome cruisey vibe, awesome tasty food, awesome friendly staff - ideal base for the playground that is around there.

Porters Lodge is a family friendly oasis in the hills of the Craigieburn Valley, positioned just off the well beaten track of State Highway 73 but easily within reach of Christchurch. With a restaurant and bar serving relatable favorites, a comfortable accommodations wing and an array of activities at our doorstep we can offer you an experience with a difference to a multi-day getaway all within a stones throw of the airport.

A ideal base for your next mountain biking adventure, we offer our own private bike trail, rental bikes, either private or public mtb shuttles to the world famous Craigieburn Valley bike trails, and friendly and knowledgeable staff here to make your stay memorable. Bike wash and storage facilities available and basic workshop access offered.

Walkers, Hikers, Hunters, Anglers can all take advantage of our great location with many tracks leading off from the doorstep of the lodge and a reputation of success in the hunter gatherer circles.

  • Do you take late check in? Arriving around 1am. Our flight arrived midnight and need to travel an hour from Christchurch.

    When you book a bed In our Mix Dormitories you will be sharing a room with others, if you would prefer a private room you can book either a Family Bunk Room or Standard Bunk Room.

  • Is there a shuttle or bus that will take you to the Christchurch airport?
    Hi - there is no bus running from Christchurch airport. For organizing your own transfer, we can recommend to get in touch with smileys tours, based in Springfield.

  • How often does the ski shuttle bus stop by the property?
    The ski shuttle is available during the ski season only on days where snow chains are essential for all vehicles. For more information please check the snow report for the Porters Alpine Resort.

    We have a fully licensed cafe and bar, for this reason the kitchen is not available for guests to use. We have a range of items on our menu that has something for everyone.
