Simple open plan setup that worked for our family group. Breakfast foods provided by host which is a nice touch. Not too far from town but remote enough for some spectacular night skies.

Araiawa Raio Lodge, New & Inviting, modern with a touch of luxury. We have tried to make your stay comfortable & relaxing. Spacious & open-plan, ideal for two or comfortable for four, we can cater for up to six people at a push, great for families & friends traveling together. Movies, Soho, Sky sports, Free WIFI .. or escape the chatter and lay back under a star-studded night sky on a bean bag outside. Our feather pillow top Super king Size beds will ensure a restful nights sleep. Able to be split into two, we can configure our bedding to sleep a maximum of six. Quietly situated 5mins from the Hub Cafe at Houhora Heads, 90 Mile Beach, Pukenui Four-Square, Houhora Big Game Fishing Club, you'll enjoy a compelling view of Mt Camel from Araiawa Raio Lodge. Bring the bikes or padde boards as Raio Creek is next to our boundary, you can paddle, bike or walk to beautiful Houhora Harbour, there is much to see and do. Parking by the deck, there is ample parking for boat, trailor & extra cars. Feel safe & secure as you will notice two German Shepards & our small white fluffy dog at your hosts home Aupouri Cottage, close, but further away for your privacy, you can relax while out & about
After a long standing career in pipeline construction Glenn & Tara moved permanently to their holiday home in Pukenui 2016. They started work on Araiawa Raio Lodge in October 2018 so they could share their lifestyle and provide a safe, secure & pleasurable base for travelers, friends & family wanting to explore the unsophisticated beauty of the Wild Far North. Always busy about their garden & home Aupouri Cottage, you might pass them with their dogs off to 90' Mile beach in the mornings. They are usually available during the day, should you have any queries or like any tips/local knowledge about the area, otherwise they will leave you in peace to unwind, relax and enjoy your stay. Glenn's passion has always been intwined in the sea. Fishing & big game has had him hooked & on the hunt for a lifetime, he is a wealth of knowledge. Tara's back ground has been in real estate, art & natural therapies, previously running her own successful homestay in Matakana, also selling original artworks by emerging & established NZ Artists. Glenn & Tara are passionate about the area, their home, family & the simple pleasures that the lifestyle in the Wild Far North behold.
Houhora Big Game Fishing Club is open Friday- Saturday and serve great fish, oysters & chips along with steaks, salads & kids meals. It is a great place to unwind after a busy day out and just relax alfresco style and enjoy watching the action that surrounds the wharf and the weigh station below. The sunset at Ninety Mile Beach is a real stunner & even better with local fish & chips & a bottle of wine, 5-mins from Araiawa Raio Lodge. Real fruit blueberry Ice Creams for the kids from our friends further north at Honey Bees is an absolute treat on the way home after a long days drive from Cape Reainga. The Pacific bar in Pukenui is a great place for a beer with your mates, sit & people watch as they come & go launching their boats from the commercial wharf across the road. Karikari Peninsula Golf Club, Resort & Winery is a perfect place to spend the day enjoying those long lazy lunches & bottles of wine with outstanding views. Kaitaia markets on a Saturday is a hive of activity, people, music, food & flavours, a true melting pot of the culture of the Far North. Don't miss surf spot shippies just north of Ahipara
