Excellent location, I stayed on a weekend with two big events on in the city, and although this hotel is in the CBD, it is well away from the restaurant and bar nightlife areas, so was really quiet. Check-in and out were really easy, and they are happy to store luggage at both ends of your stay which was very helpful. Sky Sport was available in the room, which was a bonus for this rugby fan! The onsite restaurant was great, the chef was very accommodating of my vegan requirements, when they didn't have enough ingredients on hand for the vegan menu option he created a different breakfast option for me that was exceptional.

This is a lovely old hotel. We visit Te-Whanganui-a-Tara reasonably often, though we usually stay with whānau. We choose this hotel as we were catching the Northern Explorer train home to Tāmaki Makaurau the next morning and this hotel is only a five minute flat stroll to the train station. We had booked a classic double, so didn't expect anything flash. The room was larger than expected and had a great bath! The bathroom had a shower and two basins. Check-in was friendly and very efficient. The old lift was fun (though we used the charming staircase after that). Wifi was free and seemed to work fine (though we didn't use it much). The room was quiet and warm and we didn't even turn on the heating. We opened the window for fresh air, which is nice and not common in CBD hotels these days.
