Floriańska Street – The Perfect Starting Point for Exploring Kraków Floriańska Street is one of Kraków’s most famous and prestigious streets, as well as part of the Royal Route leading to Wawel Castle. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, and today, it serves as a lively showcase of the city, filled with historic architecture, charming cafés, and boutique shops. Just a few steps away, you'll find yourself in the Main Market Square, where you can admire the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) and the stunning St. Mary’s Basilica. A short walk in the other direction takes you to Kazimierz, the city’s former Jewish quarter, known for its atmospheric streets and rich history. In the evening, Floriańska takes on an entirely different character – romantic lantern lights, the sounds of street musicians, and the lively chatter of cafés create a magical atmosphere that makes it easy to fall in love with Kraków at first sight. A Walk Through History Strolling along Floriańska, you’ll pass beautiful tenement houses with facades that have witnessed centuries of history. At one end of the street stands the Floriańska Gate, a remnant of Kraków’s medieval defensive walls, and just beyond it, the impressive Barbican. This very route was once taken by Polish kings on their ceremonial way to Wawel Castle. Just around the corner, you’ll find the Czartoryski Museum, home to one of the world’s most famous paintings – Leonardo da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine. Floriańska is alive day and night. You can stop by legendary cafés like Jama Michalika, a historic meeting place for Polish artists, or enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants serving both traditional Polish cuisine and contemporary dishes. The street is also home to the Jan Matejko House, a museum dedicated to one of Poland’s greatest painters.
