Susanna and her family are excellent hosts and made our 24 hours on the island very special. Her husband Philipe is a great chef so our meals at the restaurant were delicious. Visitors to Berlenga Grande should realize that this is a remote location only reachable by boat so all the luxuries of a 5-star hotel are not available. The rooms are small but functional with a comfortable bed, a shower, and a closet. What more do you need in paradise? Hope the night sky is clear when you stay overnight because you will see a million stars in the darkness away from city lights.

Such a privilege to sit back and relax on the verandah, looking at the sun setting over the ocean when the last ferry had left. It then feels as though you have this piece of paradise all for yourself! Superb fish dish with some good Portugese wine - what more do your need?

I feel privileged to have stayed there. What a treat it was to share the island when all the tourist boats leave in the evening! Those hours — until the boats return in the morning — are pure magic. My husband now wants to spend all his summers there. The hotel is not perfect, but the wonderful staff compensate for any shortfalls there might be. And the evening meal was the best we had in Portugal — it was freshly caught fish, simply prepared and so delicious. And the company was fabulous too!
