Company info

Casa Morgado Esporão was recently restored. It had been vacant for over 40 years. Providing large apartments rather than smaller bedrooms was part of our restoration strategy: we sought to minimise changes in the original building and maintain the original flavour of the old "chateau". We also enabled additional areas for leisure including a wine-bar, library and venue for exhibitions, all set in the old stable yards of the palace, as well as a patio and backyard garden with swimming pool. We also use the noble parts of the house, with 18th Century frescoes on the walls, as a deluxe apartment and venue for meetings and workshops. By staying with us you are contributing to restoration of the architectural and cultural heritage of this unique and beautiful world heritage site. Casa Morgado Esporão reserves the right to enter and stay in the accommodation for those who do not present a negative test or Digital Certificate (Resolution of the Council of Ministers nº 74-A/2021).

Property info

Casa Morgado Esporão (casamorgadoesporao dot com) is an old palace at the heart of ancient Évora. Its construction dates back to the 15th Century when it was the residence of a prominent figure in the history of Portugal: Álvaro Mendes de Vasconcelos, the "4th Morgado do Esporão" from the house of "Bragança" (the royal family), ambassador of Portuguese King João III to the Court of Emperor Charles V in Madrid. Later he was sent to Rome to (successfully) negotiate the establishment of the Inquisition in Portugal. The building suffered several modifications and expansions in the 17th and the 19th Century. Recently, it was restored and converted into charming boutique Aparthotel for visitors. We offer 12 stylish apartments, all of which carefully refurbished and decorated. In our premisses you will also find a lounge where you can indulge in wine tasting with carefully selected brands from Alentejo. You can also take advantage of our patio and backyard Mediterranean garden with swimming pool.

Neighborhood info

Casa Morgado Esporão is located at the heart of the Roman part of the city. This place is virtually at the epicentre of everything that matters most in Évora. 5-10 minutes away from most University buildings, 80 metres from the Roman Temple, Public Library, Museums, and Cathedral and 100 m from the main (Giraldo) square of the city. At the doorstep you can find trendy cafeterias and the finest restaurants and lots of traditional shops. In Évora people tend to walk. If you come by car, we advise you to drop it in one of the free parking lots outside the medieval walls. It is generally safe to leave the cars there, and you won't really need one if you plan to visit or stay in the city.
