NetherlandsThis was a nicely-renovated small house in a lovely location. During our visit (February) there was cold weather (around freezing), but the log-burning stove and additional heating kept the place cosy. Plenty of parking nearby.

PortugalSituated in the medieval village of Sabugal, one of oldest in Portugal, Palheiros do Castelo offers traditional cottages with a fireplace.
Palheiros do Castelo’s spacious cottages are made of schist and granite, combining the new and the old. Each cottage has a flat-screen TV, a seating area, and a modern bathroom.
Most cottages are within the walls of the medieval Castle of Sabugal providing incredible views. Surrounded by the natural parks of Serra da Estrela and Serra da Malcata the cottages provide the ideal environment for relaxing with friends and family.
Guests can prepare their meals in the fully equipped kitchen each cottage features, or use the barbecue facilities.
You can choose from a variety of activities, including cycling, fishing and hiking or relax with a film and a book.
The village of Sortelha is 12 km, and Vilar Maior is 12.4 miles away from Sabugal.

Host Information
Os Palheiros do Castelo são 4 Casas de Campo cuja reconstrução decorreu em 2010 e 2011. Tudo começou com um palheiro e um logradouro. Um palheiro de xisto e granito e um logradouro com vista sobre o rio Coa. Dentro da muralha do Castelo do Sabugal nasceu este projecto de Turismo no Espaço Rural e de promoção da nossa cultura e património assente na recuperação de casas rústicas e palheiros de pedra. E na nossa paixão pela vista daquele primeiro logradouro.
Sou um actor com raízes na zona do Sabugal. Comecei este projecto de reconstrução de várias casas dentro do perímetro do Castelo do Sabugal em 2009. Neste momento temos 4 casas de campo reconstruidas (no Sabugal) e 1 casa rústica de Alojamento Local numa pequena aldeia a 8 Km do Sabugal (a Casa da Marzagona em Vila Boa).
No Sabugal podem visitar o Castelo, o Museu ou mesmo passear pelas ruas da vila medieval ou ao longo das margens do rio Coa. Os restaurantes da cidade e de toda a região esperam por todos os que queiram experimentar a gastronomia rica e única: enchidos, queijo, doces e muitas variedades de carnes de alta qualidade. Existem diversos percursos pedestres e Btt devidamente assinalados e, claro, todo um conjunto de Adeias Históricas que devem ser visitadas: Sortelha, Vilar Maior, Castelo Mendo, etc... E Espanha é mesmo ao lado...
