First, the front desk ladies (a mother and daughter) were STELLAR. Then, the room itself was lovely--with a great view of the lit-up Templar castle, and the most comfy bed and bedding. I had the best night's sleep here ! I am not a breakfast eater, but the coffee was so good, and the food on offer looked great. The front desk lady actually drove me to the train station in her personal car !!!! the location was perfect--I got in late and only walked half a block to get some great Japanese food, and the next day, a short walk to the main plaza and walk up to the Templar castle. One of the best places I stayed on my trip.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Republica we felt welcomed despite being hot and dishevelled from a big day of hiking. This was one of the most friendly receptions we have had during our two weeks in Portugal. Nothing was too much trouble, including room service provided early from the Restaurant Menu when the All Day Menu was not available.
We requested an extra night and again, no problem at all.
Breakfast options at the restaurant were exceptional and the service, equally as good.
The coffee machine in the room was awesome, the beds luxurious and the bathroom stylish and clean. The minibar was well stocked and an abundance of room snacks were available.

Tomar is a very attractive medieval city, seeped in history. The Convento de Christopher towers over the city and well worth a visit. The Central Park is beautiful with its river and trees is a lovely relaxing place. Plenty of restaurants all in walkable distance of each other. Further out of town is a six kilometre aqueduct built in the time of Philip 2nd of Spain. A marvel of medieval engineer.

Tiny small place. Clean bedding.
Tiny small place. Clean bedding. Quiet. 15 minutes walk from center.
I had to call a few times to get a reply where the key is.
Kitchenette, but:
No kettle for tea, no kitchen towel. Onky one mug.
No bath mat. Bath towels with bleach stains.

If you take the trouble to walk around Tomar, especially the old town, it is a fascinating place. It has an interesting square where the locals come out to socialise in the evening. There are a goodly number of restaurants, suitable for all budgets.

Beautiful, historical town with massive Templar Castle up the hill. That alone is worth the side trip form Lisbon or Porto. Many groups buses stop for a day but it is a rushed way to experience this place. I think two nights allows for a better immersion into its history. Castle alone takes few good hours, not counting the outdoor area. Great place to slow down and feel the old energy there. Town has plenty of coffee shops and nice eateries. Picturesque river runs right through the middle of town. Totally walkable town with quaint, clean streets with plenty places along the way to stop for a coffee, ice cream or a tasty bite. If you are there on a weekend you might get a chance to get a picture with a Templar knight!

Do not miss the aqueduct on the outskirts of town as you drive in - I've seen quite a few and the only better is the one in Segovia in Spain. This is a double decker that goes for half a mile, in terrific condition. I'm an aqueduct fan and this was worth a trip to Tomar by itself.
But there's more: the Templar chapel in the monastery at the top of the hill above the Praca Republica is one of those places where, just when you are beginning to feel like you've seen enough church stuff, you go holy smokes! I've never seen anything like this!
The town itself is cozy and warm, and it's worth a walk around to all the different churches and along the river. You can see everything in a day if you don't dawdle.

Nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Portuguese...
Nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Portuguese countryside, Tomar is a captivating town steeped in history and brimming with charm. Renowned for its magnificent Templar Castle and Convent, Tomar offers a captivating blend of medieval enchantment and modern-day allure.
The Castelo de Tomar, or Tomar Castle, stands as a testament to the power and influence of the Knights Templar, who established their stronghold in Tomar in the 12th century. This imposing fortress, adorned with intricate carvings and architectural masterpieces, is home to the Convento de Cristo, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.
The Convento de Cristo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a labyrinth of grand cloisters, chapels, and chapterhouses, each whispering tales of the Knights Templar's influence. The remarkable Cloister of Silence, with its serene atmosphere and intricate tracery, is a must-see for any visitor to Tomar.
The villa was amazing!! It felt like home, and the views were the best yet, throughout our three week visit to Portugal! The hosts answered our needs via text, within a few minutes! There was a wonderful varieto of local bread, cheese, milk, juice, and a nice bottle of wine to welcome us! I would absolutely return to this villa when we visit Portugal once again. The balconies, beautifully unique and fun decorations, and kitchen were impecable! The beds were so comfy, we didn't want to leave. Thank you!!
Good location in the heart of Tomar. The room was very comfortable and clean; staff were helpful and considerate. They made the extra effort to have gluten-free bread for me at breakfast - something that many hotels and guest houses didn't do. I have celiac disease, so asked each property when booking whether their breakfast had gluten-free options. Most simply responded that there were options available - Thomar Story was one of the few that actually provided gluten-free bread.
The lady at the desk was delightful and liked to talk to us. She was very helpful and even gave us a map of the area and then marked all the best places to go and where to eat. She even gave us some history of Tomar. The European-style breakfast was very good and filling. The rooms were dated, but clean and comfortable. Each room has its own air conditioner. The location is very near the old part of town where there are lots of eating joints and an ice cream shop.
The hotel location was excellent it is situated by the river and just a few minutes walk from Tomar old town. I had a view of the castle from my room balcony. Free car parking was a huge advantage. The pool area was lovely and the indoor pool a real advantage at this time of year. There was a good variety of foods available at breakfast. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable. My bathroom had both a bath and a separate shower.
The home was spacious, comfortable, fully equipped, quiet but not far from Tomar & our host Ana was so friendly & helpful. We found the location to be convenient to drive to several historic towns but peaceful in it’s country setting. Ana has a talent for growing things too, we were too early for most of her produce but she introduced us to loquats since they were ripe. So delicious right off her tree.
If you are staying in Tomar look no further than this hotel, the room was excellent the bed and linen was like sleeping on a cloud. The breakfast was perfect, the location of the hotel in the old quarter was amazing. A short walk to the castle, synagogue etc. most of all the staff were incredibly helpful and Joao was very informative and friendly helping us to solve a parking issue in Lisbon.
Amazing jam in heart of Tomar, very close to everything. The room itself is very comfortable clean and nicely decorated. There were enough space for 2 and luggage. Liked the rituals cosmetic in bathroom, nice touch. The breakfast is amazing, very delicious and good variety. There is also nice terrace on the top with great city and tampliere castle view.
Spaceous room with a balcony, close to the city center, nice people as everywhere in Portugal, interesting seasonal fruits for breakfast. Very clean. Free public parking around, however it's tight, not easy to find a place. It's quite a good place to stay for one night if you are planning to go there just for a sleep.
The room was lovely and comfortable but talking with Antonio was the best-he is a wealth of knowledge about Tomar and the history of Knights Templar! I appreciated the kitchen and sitting by his warm fireplace sharing a glass of wine. I found the bed very comfortable and not hard like some.
I loved the fact that it was quiet and it is a good place to relax. I'll be coming back in the future for sure😊 Staff very friendly, I met Patricia, very cute😊 and the Hostess Telma, very friendly and polite on the phone. I already recomended to my friends in Portugal and England.
Super thoughtfully designed place, efficient and inviting details and appliances everywhere. Very spacious for two people. The most comfortable mattress we've slept on in Portugal as well! Very friendly and responsive staff. Excellent location, walkable to everything.
Gorgeous 😍 small hotel with a wonderful lounge area on the first floor up. Staff was exceptional. Breakfast buffet was delicious. Top notch all the way. Best bed I've slept in in Portugal. Such a splurge for little money. Great value. So close to the castle
This hotel is about as perfect as it gets. Amazing location, lovely staff, great breakfast, easy parking and comfortable and quiet room. Also a small pool and sauna. We felt very relaxed and happy there. Tomar is also a great town to visit.
Wonderful beautiful place to stay in Tomar. Very comfortable bed, great shower, tasteful, spacious, great breakfast in a good location. Wished we had planned to stay more than one night. Lovely host.
The hotel manage and staff couldn’t help me enough with advice about Tomar and my stay in the hotel.
Great food, central location and an amazing room, with allot of attention to detail.
Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. EXCELLENT customer service!!!
Room was very nice. Bed was comfortable. Restaurant food and service were the best in Portugal.
