The house and the multiple gardens around it are exceptionally beautiful, from the smallest details to the grandest views. The host and hostess were simply delightful, and plainly enjoy sharing tales of their rich family history. Superb!

Quinta de Santa Julia was perfect. My wife and I were enchanted at being able to wander the vineyard grounds, by the views down to the river, and by Costas's generous stories of his many years producing wine. The architecture and gardens are wonderful. Our first breakfast was in a beautiful courtyard and the second on an incredible balcony. My wife swam in the pool every morning and the Quinta was well situated for local explorations. We had a chance to participate in one of Costas's vineyard tours (no extra charge for us guests) and to sample his fantastic wine and olive oil. For us, a highlight was seeing the Quinta's private chapel. Quinta de Santa Julia isn't a slick or anonymous feeling stay. Instead, one gets a sense of the house and its history, of the family that has been there, of the social and industrial changes to the region. We enjoyed it thoroughly.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Quinta de Santa Julia. This is a family-owned, real working wine farm; none of the corporate stuff you find at other wineries in the area. The property is amazing—the house is quaint and historic, the gardens are gorgeous, and the view can’t be beat. Our host was so welcoming and such a charming storyteller; he gave us great recommendations on what to do with our day in the region and even welcomed us on his group tour and tasting. We wished we could have stayed for longer!

Good size swimming pool, very comfortable traditional house and local produce.

Breakfast was provided for the first morning and was excellent. The property is a wonderful place with a beautiful view over the valley and very quiet!!

The breakfast was so amazing - it was like something from a movie. This place is so unique and magical we highly recommend. Make sure you have a car as it's a little far from restaurants but you can walk if you want (we walked to a nearby restaurant). It was also very easy to get to. Not sure why people commenting it was tough to find, Google maps took us right there.

Breakfast was awesome. The owners went above and beyond making us feel welcome. Eduardo is a great story teller and so very proud of his estate.

This incredible property is high in the hills above the main Duoro River drag. It made for a wonderful drive and outstanding views. The host, Eduardo and his wife, were the gems of this experience. Incredibly personable, accommodating, concerned about our enjoyment. The staff were equally as accommodating. The grounds and gardens are AMAZING and you have freedom to roam and explore. When we first arrived, sitting by the pool with a bottle of wine sounded nice and Eduardo showed us to an outdoor pantry for us to help ourselves and just put it on the tab at check-out. Breakfast served everyday at 9 in the courtyard was a slice of heaven. Definitely don't miss out on a tour with Eduardo about the vineyards and winery as he has a sensational history and is a wonderful storyteller. The room itself, living room, and halls are all historically designed and decorated, giving you the sense of living in a museum.

The most amazing historical hotel with fabulous views! The owners were are incredible hosts, delicious breakfast and a wonderful sleep, we will be back.
