The hostess is simply charming - we did everything successfully by sign language. The place is a gem; mediaeval stone building and interior features, quaint little terraced gardens, delicious breakfast in the elegant tea room cafe, and the best bedroom imaginable

This villa was a pleasant surprise. The location is right next to the cathedral. The building was historic and decorated in quaint furnishings. Breakfast was next door in a cafe shop and was delicious. We wish we had longer here but ateast the location meant that you could explore the old town in a couple of hours. A restaurant recommended to us and very close by with backdrop of lit up church was great and had an extensive wine list. Parking on sites was excellent.

This is a lovely very old building which has been tastefully converted to provide accomodation. It was opened by the then President of Portugal Mario Soares in 1988. The upgrade has been tastefully done so that you are still staying in a virtual musem but with modern facilities (bathrooms etc). Especially worth a stay if you are new to Portugal and its previous halcyon days. Breakfast is taken in another part of the building which is classed as a tea room - breakfast is something to behold. Be hungry please!

The 17th century Solar de Alarcao features a garden and a furnished terrace with Guarda views. The centre of Guarda is a 4-minute drive from the property.

The rooms are carefully decorated with typical Portuguese furnishings and have a TV, central heating and a private bathroom.

A varied breakfast is served each morning at the Solar, made up of regional products. Room breakfast is available, upon request. The nearby Guarda centre features a number of Portuguese restaurants, serving traditional dishes.

There is a furnished terrace, where guests can enjoy the property’s tranquility, while overlooking the garden. The house has 3 communal living rooms, including a games room with billiards and a selection of board games. The property features a bar, where refreshing drinks are served, where guests can enjoy their drink or just relax in the sofas and watch TV.

The green areas of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park are a 17-minute drive away. The park features vast fields, hiking trails, picnic spots and a varied plant life. Porto International Airport is a 2-hour drive away from the Solar de Alarcao.
