Calheta is a nice village and had a big supermarket as well as smaller shops and a white sand beach. If you enjoy hiking, you will have to travel a bit because most of the hikes are not located in this part of the island. I would personally stay somewhere a bit more centered next time. Although this town also had a certain charm because part of the village is still rather old, it also has a main road next to the beach with some restaurants, a bigger supermarket, pharmacy, ... I enjoy staying in a neighborhood which is a little more vibrant and went on a lot of hikes, so that's why I would choose a different town to stay the next time I visit Madeira.

A small town with amazing views over the Atlantic and a public sandy beach. There is a museum of contemporary art and a sugar refinery, but we did not visit them. A very short walk on the waterfront. Worth visiting the Jardim do Mar, a small village with pedestrian narrow streets. We also enjoyed the dolphin watching trip. It takes about 40 minutes by car from Calheta to Funchal.

Probably the nicest place of Madeira, especially for those who love sunbathing, sandy beaches and relaxation. Also if You would like to travel to North of Madeira, it is much closer to do it from Calheta region comparing to Funchal.

Lovely small town close to the see, all accomodation are close but take care ... if you don't like to climb a slope, it will be hard because all the streets are uphill !!! The sun is always present but not too hot at this moment so it was wonderfull. We'll come back as soon as possible !

The area is quite widespread from the marina and sand beach up into the mountains. Marina and beach area lovely and not inundated by 'cruisers'. Some good local cafes and bars inland. Very steep in places. Be careful if walking if recently wet! Good connections by bus to Funchal, Porto Moniz (well worth a visit with its rock pool swimming), and other smaller seaside villages. A good base for a walking holiday especially if you have a car though some levada walks can be got to by bus. Has an interesting looking modern art museum sadly closed for maintenance on my visit.

Calheta is not only a town but also the name of a large part of the island, which in this place is sunny and has beautiful views and sunsets. I highly recommend renting a car which is the best way for exploring the various villages and charming viewpoints of Caletha.

Beautiful little house, nice garden with sea views and some friendly cats coming around every day. The house is very well equipped, it was a real joy cooking in the kitchen. The beds are very comfortable and the big rain shower was amazing too.Its just a short drive to Calheta Beach and lots of trekking paths. We stayed in lots of places all over the world and Madeira Island and this one was definitely one of our favourites! We absolutely loved this place and wished we could have stayed longer! Highly recommended!

we had a lovely spacious room overlooking the harbour, which had kitchen facilities that we were not expecting. Nice comfortable beds and lovely white linen. The pool area is great with plenty of sunbeds for all guests. The dining area had plenty of choice but it was pretty average food. Staff were all friendly and helpful. It is situated on probably the only sandy beach on the island, plus there are several cafes and restaurants you could walk to on the harbour if you wanted a change from the hotel.

The hotel is built around the restaurant, so as you'd expect the breakfast and dinner is one of the best on Madeira. Local, fresh and changing everyday. Perfect for foodies. We travelled with our 4 year old and the staff where incredibly welcoming and friendly. For the 3 of us we had one of the houses, rather than the rooms. The house had stunning sea views from the bed, with a extremely private terrace looking out onto a waterfall. We'd go back in a heartbeat

Astounding view from the garden. Comfortable and private, with well-equipped kitchen. A 10 minute walk to Calheta marina with a supermarket, beach, and restaurants (the path is very steep though). Zeza is a very friendly and accomodating host. Reaching the place from Funchal by bus is challenging, I'd only recommend it to adventurous souls (take bus 142, exit at a nameless bus stop about 2km above the house, walk 20 minutes downhill along a local asphalt road).

Well equipped, cosy house with large outdoor terrace and private parking. House offers pretty much anything you could need. Francisco is a great host and is very responsive to questions. We didn't have any issues during our stay. Location is great, close to the Calheta beach/harbor with several restaurants and a good size / modern supermarket in walking distance. This is great for when you get back from a Levada hike or from sight seeing on the island.

Lovely hotel miles from anywhere so if you like peace and quiet this is the place to go. Very polite and helpful staff. Great food in the restaurant, plenty of choices.Wonderful apartment overlooking the ocean and fantastic views all round. Indoor pool and sauna very good and even used outdoor pool..though a tad chilly in January! great location for walks and there's a courtesy bus to Calheta and the rum distillery...all in all a great holiday.

Located in quiet place in Prezeres. Very nice small house (honestly I'm interested what it was before), fully equipped with inside fireplace and outdoor terrace with grill. Great location for western part of Madeira trips. 10km to Paul da Serra plain, 10km to Calheta (beach, restaurants, well-equipped shopping incl. fresh fishes) via main express route. Locally three pubs/restaurants in 200 meters. Local shop and petrol station within 1 km.

Saccharum was the perfect hotel to relax. The decoration is beautiful. Two outdoor pools, one indoor pool with amazing views. The breakfast and dinner had so many options and everything was so tasty. The bedroom was comfortable, spacious, and extremely clean. The staff was always friendly and ready to help. There was so many people staying there and still it was so silent and relaxing. Recommend this hotel 200%!.

A great place to stay, away from the busy area's which we wanted, not to far from the beach at calheta. The house was what we expected so certainly no disappointments, the family who own the property are very welcoming and hospitable, they made the stay even better, we certainly hope to visit again,it's on our list of properties. Not to far from Rabacal where we enjoyed a a great walk.

The property is designed in a very modern way with attention to details and a good taste. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff is friendly. The hotel’s spa is very well equipped and it was not too crowded when we were there. Hotel’s restaurants offer a variety of tasty local and international dishes. In a nutshell, it is a perfect place for relaxing holidays in Madeira.

Mrs Esmeralda is the most charming host I’ve ever met, the villa was clean and perfectly prepared for guests. There wasn’t any problem with picking up keys, Mrs Esmeralda showed us where are towels, blanket for beach, etc so we weren’t confused, she also told us where we should look for the shop, the best beach in Calheta and cafe shop :) I’d recommend to everybody

Beautiful location and nice view. The cottages are large and well equipped. The only downside during our stay was a large construction word next to our house and was very noisy part of time. The hotel is of course not to blame but we would like to be informed before arrival so we could plan not to hang out at the pool before 6PM. We would go again. Great place

Praticality meets style. Loved the design and choice of furniture it all goes so well. The house is easily located, and its close by to a small market, fantastic restaurant and a local café and of course the beautiful relaxing Calheta Beach, as well as the famous Madeira levadas. Definitely worth staying at, the hostess is lovely and quite helpful.

Just up the hill from the lovely Calheta Beach, with street parking further up the hill. The apartment was spacious and clean. There was a playground, pharmacy , several restaurants, and a grocery store nearby. The host was attentive and even brought over a pot of soup which she left in the kitchen while we were out.
