The city is well worth to visit. The new design looks amazing. If you are a fishing lover or enjoy nature is a great destination. You can easily find trips to see Danube Delta wildlife. The prices are affordable.
Well worth it giving a try.

Favorite places: Danube Delta museum, Ivan Patinkin esplanade, one day trip to Danube Delta
There are several restaurants (mainly sea food and fishes) around but we preferred self catering.
Yes, it is easy to get around Tulcea by boat or by car.
To be avoided: week end and legal holidays.

Tulcea is my hometown, so I know a thing or two about it.
Tulcea is my hometown, so I know a thing or two about it. It generally has the same feel of many similar towns in Romania, being greatly affected by the Communist and the post-Revolution years. However, it does have some charm of its own. The Danube promenade is one of the nicest in Romania and it's slowly getting even better. The view from the "monument" (there are several in town, but only one is known as "The" monument) are quite impressive, especially at sunrise and sunset. There are several museums that will help you discover the region and - of course - Tulcea is the gateway to the Danube Delta, which is a marvel in itself, although people don't respect it as they should (but that's true about everything in Romania).
There are many places where you can go for good food, I'll name a few that I've tried: Santa Catalina, The Pub Grill House, Trident, but there are plenty of other options. Getting around is quite easy, since Tulcea is a fairly small town and taxis are cheap-ish. Local transport is a decent option. While generally safe, being careful never hurt anyone and it's probably better to avoid some of the darker streets at night.

It’s a great stepping off point for the Delta and would recommend staying here for this, as you can then travel different routes in by boat. That said, the town itself doesn’t have much else to offer for tourists, with the exception of a couple of museums and an aquarium (unfortunately closed when we visited). Some decent restaurants but nothing outstanding.

The Danube delta is the draw here.
The Danube delta is the draw here. Despite visiting in the freezing depths of winter I found an excellent guide who took me on an amazing boat trip (Safca Delta Tours, I highly recommend).
Sadly the Delta Museum was closed during my visit.

A beautiful, peaceful town.
A beautiful, peaceful town. There are lots of birds right in the town to see. You must go down the canals if you want to seehundreds but I was happy seeing my personal favourite s and recovering from a bad experience. I stayed in an idyllic hotel that made my trip hotel insula. On an island with ducks sleeping outside my room and seagulls and cormorants and I was right on the water like a houseboat. For me it couldn't have been better and I had a gorgeous view of the city, church and colored fountains at night. Highly recommended! Eat at Santa Catarina healthy awesomefoodat incredible prices!!! With a gorgeous view too. My stay in tulcea was amazing even though it started off in a bad place with a horrible aggressive owner of an apt. But when I switched to a hotel it wS great.
First of all, the location of this apartment is perfect. It sets you up perfectly for spending time in Tulcea and is especially perfect for an exploration of the delta or the larger area. The apartment itself is very well done, clean, modern and quiet and the view over the Danube as it curves through town is amazing. Sunrises and sunsets are the best. The host is also one of the owners of Safca Delta Tours, and he picked us up right at the dock below the apartment for our custom tour (also fantastic) of the delta.
The owner/manager of this property was AMAZING! Truly some of the best customer service I have experienced in a long time! She was very friendly and helpful. The property is not very close to the center of town but it is close enough to walk to the pier if you take a Danube Delta Tour as I did. It is also just behind and below the Monument which isn't far to walk either. Wifi was fantastic, parking was great, bed was comfortable and everything was spotless.
I highly recommend this property!!
Very professional and friendly staff, with excellent English. Unlike many other hotels in Romania the room is cleaned every day.
The SPA services are those of the 4-star hotel (Delta 4) directly accessible from Delta 3.
The difference between the two hotels is in the rooms (I think); the rooms in the Delta 3, for me, are more than acceptable (a bit soviet :-) but very well maintained and large. The restaurant is in the Delta 4 hotel but outside there are several more "traditional" solutions.
I had an excellent stay at Hotel Europolis, situated in the heart of Tulcea town. I had a good size room, very clean, with a wide screen TV (many channels to choose from) and a fridge, both in good working order. The bed was comfortable with fresh sheets. A nicely decorated bathroom with a power shower and hair dryer - all making for a perfect stay. Breakfast was varied and delicious. The personnel was friendly, helpful and attentive. I couldn't ask for more!
The whole compound was so lovely with the traditional architectural features. The hosts Vali and Jetta made it like a home away from home. They were such kind hosts and they drove me to the bus station when I left. They also cooked the most delicious fish soup. Vali had a motorized rubber boat and he knew what he was doing very well. He knew where to take guests to see the birds and the ecosystem of the delta. Amazing value. Recommend to anyone.
The host is super nice, helpful and accommodating. Furthermore, the place is beautiful, clean and new as it has just been renovated. The room has a good size and is equipped with everything that is stated plus it has a nice seating area with two comfy armchairs. The bathroom is spacious with a big walk-in shower. Furthermore, the other shared spaces are also quite big and very comfortable. Can only recommend this place to anyone coming to Tulcea!
Nice old house in really good condition. Close to the center of the city. We booked on the last minute but we had everything we needed. The hostess was really nice and friendly, she offered welcome beverages and she can speak many languages and can help you if you need something. Outside there is a nice chill out area with bbq and some fresh fruits. Good quality for a good price.
The hotelroom and bathroom are clean. It has a nice balcony although it’s next to a road. Nice garden where you can sit. The owner tried to sell me a Delta trip immediately. There were no other options in town because of the lack of tourists so I choose to do so. It was quite ok and cheap, but not as professional as the more expensive ones.
The Breakfast buffet is amazing. There is a coffee machine that makes espresso or macchiatto. There is a great variety of food, including eggs, meat, cereal, sweets, etc. The Rooms are clean and sufficient. The location is very walkable and close to many sites in Tulcea and is right in the City Square.
A very nice and clean apartment (obviously recently refurbished), located right at the main Danube promenade with a beautiful outlook. Fully equipped, including a fully automatic coffee machine and a wash machine. The host also offers Danube delta tours, which was an awesome experience.
The host is super responsive, met at the location. A few items were missing for a comfortable stay, host prompt to get. Can be sure you're getting hosted by someone who cares about your comfort. Stayed 3 nights while visiting the delta with family - had a pleasant stay.
The welcome was incredible, the family is adorable and took the time to answer our questions. The house is immense, very well arranged, we felt well. It is located a few kilometers from the city center, it is a very quiet place.
Nice view to the Danube, steps away to ships going to Delta, safe parking (barrier, video surveilliance, 24 hour security) Also we could leave the car here for the days we have traveled to Delta, tax was 40 RON/day.
Central location, right in the heart of the city. Fair price for what it offers. The view, especially for the higher floors. The bathroom was clean and equipped with a lot of towels. The minibar has water and soda.
Florian is very welcoming and helpful with everything i need. It’s a good location, next to a small market, restaurants and Supermarkets and very close to the ferries to the Donaubdelta.
