Good opportunity for a short stay (maybe even a longer stay) in the town of Nakhon Pathom. The room was clean. The staff was trying to help in English if anything was not clear. The location is very central and can be reached by foot from the train station if you don't mind a little walking. You can check out Phra Pathom Chedi and Wat Phai Lom while walking along Tesa Soi to the hotel.

The city of Nakhon Pathom is a nondescript Bangkok satellite. It's congested, badly planned, and littered with architectural eyesores, the most tedious of which is an ugly, bulbous chedi in the central area. In contrast, the province of Nakhon Pathom can be quite charming, particularly along the riverbanks and khlong-side areas. Even so, for most tourists, Nakhon Pathom is best understood as a midway point between Bangkok and more interesting provinces of western and southern Thailand.

There are a few highlights to check out, but not many.

There are a few highlights to check out, but not many. Wat Samphran (aka Dragon Temple) is worth the viewing. It's free, though donations of 20 baht of more are appreciated. Don Wai Floating Market is an excellent, local market (re: not many tourists) -- though not technically a "floating market", more of a riverside market. Very nice to spend a couple of hours walking through it, shopping, trying all the food. A good market to get lost in :) There are one or two other very nice-looking temples as well with a 20 minutes radius of the main area of Samphran. Haad Sai Khao is a man-made beach, with a lagoon, equipment rentals, food booths. Expesically nice to visit if they are hosting a festival. Other than those things, however, Nakhon Pathom isn't exactly a beehive of activity. Perhaps a good stopover for a day or two on your way to somewhere else.

Hotel staff is superior in service.

Hotel staff is superior in service. Front desk, in particular, go to extra lengths to help. I needed a cheaper alternative for ground transportation, and an outstanding front desk person did an amazing, creative job finding the right solution. Nice pool, good breakfast. Restaurant choices are limited for other meals. The dome rooftop bar is fun. But if you are touring Bangkok, this hotel is way too far out of the city. For touring nearby sites (e.g., Chandra Palace, the Buddhist Dome), this hotel is a good location in Nakhon Pathom province. i

    A contrast to Bangkok.

A contrast to Bangkok. This rural area is a quiet town with places to visit. Especially the famous Wat Pathumchedi. A short stay will suffice. No public transportation here, hence a car rental will be good.

There is no reason for any tourist to visit the city of Nakhon Pathom. It is a sweltering, disorganised eyesore of a place, jammed up with traffic congestion, gross concrete buildings, and framing a squat, bulbous temple in the centre of it all. The whole thing is best avoided.
