I'm really pleased I decided to go north and see Trabzon.
I'm really pleased I decided to go north and see Trabzon. Easy flight from/to Istanbul and the airport is only a few minutes away. NB: if you're flying around Turkey your luggage allowance is likely to be quite a bit less than for your international flight into Turkey - depending on your ticket type. The town itself is quite busy - in a good way - not overwhelming. Lovely central park square. Plenty of eateries, shops and market stalls. I was only there 2 nights so booked an organised day trip to the Sumela monastery - be prepared for a bit of a walk, caves, the glass balcony, etc. It's worth doing a bit of comparison checking on who you go with: some tours are all in, some do not include entrance fees. It's really beautiful and lush and totally different from Cappadocia and the south. Tried traditional rice pudding and the sweets made from boiled fruit.

Very beautiful surrounding nature. Loved the Sumela Monastery and Uzungol. Traffic in the city can get a bit overwhelming for tourists who rent a car, but people are very friendly and patient. Trabzon is very nice place to visit. Cuisine and the vibe is lively. Some other tourist spots though are far from the center. But it is the travel experience that matters, so I really recommend to visit.

At this time Trabzon is way too hot and could not enjoy walking around. The best thing is that we rented a car and enjoying roaming around. It gave us several options. The sea seemed very tempting but due to weather condition we could not enjoy it. I am not sure if it is me or this is becoming a trend. Food is too little. Wherever we go the amount of food if Turkish dishes was not ever enough for us. We kept ordering extra to have full.

Also the bus stop for the small buses of Trabzons public transport system is really close (2-4 minutes walk). The reception might seem a bit unassuming, but the rooms upstairs are well equipped and clean and the beds are comfortable. Also there is breakfast included in the price which offers a variety of different spreads, sweet or savoury. Also tours can be booked at the front desk!

The location is close to restaurants, shops, airport, but also to the main city of Trabzon. Everything was great, I would return and I definitely recommend.
