A beautiful town, completely different from the Turkiye known by those who visit the coast. Kurdish, not Turkish, with Christian buildings going back to the fourth century and a culture that encompasses many religions and languages. A good base for a day trip (with guide) to Midyat and other local sites. Plenty of restaurants, serving wide variety of foods. Wine shops, selling local wines, but no bars in the old town.
Really wish we had read more before going. Pictures show the beautiful pale-coloured buildings climbing up the hillside but not the fact that the 'roads' are more often steps. Wonderful small narrow streets, a copper bazaar where people were at work, incredible churches, mosques and madrasas - but you need to have good hips and knees!
An excellent Hamam, open for men mornings and evenings, for women in the afternoons.
For anyone interested in early Christianity, in cultural melting pots, or in somewhere unlike most tourist towns, Mardin and Midyat, and the necropolis at Dara, the area is exceptional. Allow about four days and bring sensible shoes.
Good and cheap bus service from the airport, no need to use taxis.

This was the second time to visit Mardin, this time during a small road trip. Mardin is a place were you don not see Western people. Please do not mention it, otherwise it will ruined as other old citys. Atmosfere specicial on the market is like 200years old. Views are amazing, and most important the people.

Mardin old town is a remarkable destination - fabulous architecture, great shopping, many wonderful restaurants, and world renown historic sites nearby. We stayed at Fairouz Konak Otel, which we would highly recommend - it is a historic building in the heart of Mardin old town, within easy walking distance of many restaurants and stores, We were welcomed by our thoughtful host with delicious offerings of food and drink; he was able to answer all our questions about his city. The hotel was memorable for its charming rooms, fantastic panoramic views from many terraces, delicious breakfasts, and excellent host and staff, We highly recommend a visit to Mardin and a stay at Fairouz Konak Otel!

Mardin is one good medium city not very bussy for turists. There is one old and interesting city with a lot of loveley mosque, houses and narrow street, very different for others places from Europe. I used this location for travell to Dara and Husankyf on Tigris river.

Mardin is beautiful and ancient and wonderful.
Mardin is beautiful and ancient and wonderful. Everyone was so friendly - I never encountered even one person who wasn't kind and gracious.
I think the only down side to Mardin is all of the litter. Although I saw several workers cleaning, it seems the people of Mardin don't understand the impact of throwing you trash out the window, which I saw a lot of.
Nonetheless, I loved Mardin. The history, the people, the general feel... wonderful! I will return!

Mardin is a very interesting city in the East of Turkey.
Mardin is a very interesting city in the East of Turkey. There are a lot of places to visit for a person who loves history, culture and tasty food. People who live there are different: Turks, Kurds, Syriacs. The city is quite friendly and calm. There are a lot of must-visit places in the city center. It is also interesting to visit the close cities, like Midyat, Sanliurfa, Gobekli Tepe.
But I advice not to go in winter. This time it had started to snow right before the flight. So it was cancelled, the airport was closed for 2 days, as it was no ready for the weather somehow.
Authentic hotel with absolutly helpful owner and staff. Located just in the centre of Mardin Old city and hotel itself let to feel Mardin atmosphere.
Owner was very attentive and helped with parking and shared information what to see and where to eat 😊. We had very nice traditional Turkish breakfast at hotel.
As hotel situated just in the middle of the old city, its better to keep in mind that to get to the hotel you can thought quite challenging steps.
The location of the hotel is key! It is in the middle of the old town, so you have everything near! Restaurants, public transport, museums! The room was nice and clean! The breakfast was good to start a day of activities! But the best was the staff, Helin, she was so helpful, I asked thousands of questions and she helped whith each one! Of course it was between Turkish and English, but for that there is google translator! 100% recommended for foreign.
Tufan, Islam, Talia, Ceylan, and Hamdin were excellent hosts. They really made us feel at home and the breakfast was fantastic. The stone house is 900+ years old and has been thoughtfully renovated. Interestingly, the water supply is pumped from an old well beneath the property that you can see! The house is conveniently located and an excellent place to explore the rest of Mardin from. We definitely hope to return!
Overall it is a beautiful hotel with beautiful terraces and really nice staff. It was clean and the breakfast was good. But depending on the room you have the experience changes a lot. Some rooms are deep into the stone and have no window at all - which of course is due to the old building and the style of being carved into the stone. Just make sure you have a window in your room, then your stay will be nice.
The hotel is superb, totally recommend for any future trips and visits to Mardin. Very comfy bed, nice room, and good shower. Everything is very clean, and guests oriented.
Hotel has small parking on the street, I recommend you to call them in advance and ask for assistance. Coz the street is super busy and you might not want to create additional traffic.
Very helpful personnel.
In fact, I did not find the hotel to be at a five-star level for many reasons, including
1- The hotel did not have a private garage 2- The bathrooms were not up to the required standard 3- The breakfast was lacking in many materials 4- The rooms were not comfortable due to street noise 5- The air conditioning was not good
You feel an authentic Mardin experience staying at this place. Very typical Mardin house and room. Breakfast was so perfect. Homemade. Not too much not too little and exactly what a breakfast in Turkey is. The owner is very polite and very helpful. We are very happy with our overall experience there.
The hotel is located right in the centre of Mardin old town in a lovely historic building. Rooms are comfortable albeit a little tired in places. The manager and the bell boy are very friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet was extensive and served on a roof terrace with great views.
Being in Mardin, I was staying in ZERZEVAN hotel. I highly recommend it, not only because of its amazing historical beauty, but also owing to the people who work there and always happy to help. It is in the city center and pretty easy to get everywhere from there.
I liked it all. The room and the hotel is beautiful, very comfortable. The staff was very kind to me. They were very friendly. It was the best stay in Mardin I have ever had
I would return to the hotel on a next trip
The location was great and the hotel is situated in a very beautiful building. The room was clean and comfortable. The Turkish breakfast in the morning was a very nice way to start the day.
Well maintained historic building in the heart of Mardin. Nice view at night from the terras with friendly staff. Definitely worth it if you like the authentic feel.
The location is great! Walking distance to the main street of Mardin. Breakfast has a great view. The room is spacious enough and the hotel is nicely decorated.
I appreciate the history behind the hotel and how helpful Zihat and his friends are. The location is also incredible. Everything is within walking distance.
The staff were very helpful . The hotel was at the eastern edge of the old town , far from the noise and traffic, which is great for me as I love walking .
Gréât location in the heart of Old Mardin . Esthetically pleasing spot . Charm of the old town . Breakfast is served on the rooftop wth fantastic views .
