Great location to discover Stone Town or to catch a boat from the beach to Prison Island. The rooms are spacious with great airco and wifi.

The staff is committed to their guests. My AC did not work my first night and the hotel was full so I was unsure how the situation would be resolved. The hotel replaced my AC. The staff will also help you with transportation and with tours. The breakfast is excellent. You can sit at a table looking over the beach. The hotel beach adjoins a public beach. The hotel has employees who ensure that hotel guests are not disturbed by ball games on the public beach. The cleaning ladies are friendly and thorough. The Apartments are a couple of blocks from the hotel which gives you the opportunity to engage with some of the locals. The route is well-lit so I felt safe. I bonded with the Simba Cat Rescue folks and talked to the cats daily and purchased food for them. The location is quieter than the main hotel. The staff will help you with luggage and have an area to store it if your departure is after check out. My room had a balcony looking out the back with a distant view of the courtyard.

Very good accomodation in city center. Room are big, and there is a shared kitchen that you can use at every floor. The apartaments are in a separate building across the street to Tembo hotel, very close. You get to benefit from all the facilities of the hotel (pool, restaurant), even if you stay at the apartaments. Restaurant has fair prices, lower than what we had across the island. Tembo hotel is a very interesting building, with a special charm, blending in arabic and african style, and in an authentic way. All these at a fair price that you can't find elsewhere.

Hotel was beautiful, location was perfect, and staff was very friendly. Rooms were spacious, and beds were comfortable. There were no mosquito nets but we had our own and there was a hook already on the ceiling - but to be honest, not sure if it was necessary as I hadn't seen or heard any mosquitos during our time there. Breakfast was fine, nothing exceptional. Also, we were a bit surprised there was no alcohol on the menu at the seating area next to the pool. We were very pleased with our stay here!

The hotel staff is very friendly, I really like how they helped me with trips, taxi drivers and everything else. My advice is : before you go for a trip (prison island, spice tour ...) check with the reception, they have awesome prices and advice. I forgot my shoes in my room, the hotel staff was so kind, as soon as I called them, they sent it to kendwa (1 hour 40 min away) with an express taxi driver. TO ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND

very clean large apartment, large bathroom with hot shower. there is a balcony with a courtyard view. the breakfast in the hotel was very good, lots of variety. pool has a great view and there are sun beds right on the beach. the hotel is in a great location directly on the beach and only a few meters from Freddie Mercury museum. it’s in the heart of Stone Town. the staff were all incredibly friendly. wish we stayed longer. We are an American couple in our 30’s traveling around the world and this was one of the best value stays we’ve had in 3 months.

The breakfast was expansive, although many of the items were just various kinds of breads. But there was a fresh egg station that also made waffles and all of that was quite yummy. To clarify from what I read on other reviews before booking, the B&B part of the Tembo Hotel where we stayed was literally only about a minute walk from the main hotel, and we did not think it was down any sketchy streets as another review said. There is one corner where some trash builds up but it is right next to the Doubletree Hotel so it can't be that sketchy! We loved having access to the washing machine (easy enough to buy small packs of detergent from the little shop across from the hotel) and the fridge/freezer to keep water cold. There is a worker from the hotel stationed in the B&B building who can help with luggage and other requests. There are two pools at the Tembo hotel, one is a bigger one on the main floor and there is a second rooftop pool that is very shallow.
