“There is only one Fort Myers, and 90 million people are going to find it out.” This quote by Thomas Edison for many years decorated the upper left-hand corner of the Fort Myers News-Press. Edison realized the unique potential of this area, along with others such as Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone. Edison began construction of his labs and winter home in the late 1880s. Since then Southwest Florida has flourished and has become one of the most unique and noteworthy areas of the state. It truly is a place to enjoy. It has been stated that there is a line about 20 miles north of Fort Myers where the weather is decidedly more subtropical and provides us with our balmy winters. Summers are also quite enjoyable. Distinctive Beach Rentals was established by Amy and Rick Loughrey in 2004. They are a hands-on couple who continue to operate the company to this day. Due to Florida Governor DeSantis' Executive Order 20-112 and 20-87 we are unable to accommodate all reservations. The town of Fort Myers Beach lifts restrictions beginning on May 15, 2020 and we may take a reservation for anyone who will be staying 30 days or a calendar month. We can also take a reservation for persons performing military, emergency, governmental, health or infrastructure response, or travelers engaged in non-vacation commercial activities. You will be required to show proof. Beginning on June 1, 2020 we will take reservations for anyone. However, it is with the understanding the reservation may be canceled if the order is still effect. Phase two will allow for Florida residents to make reservations. Phase three will allow for all reservations. We are waiting to hear the dates on the phases as they roll out from the Governor.
