Randall Glen is located just outside Asheville, NC in a historic farming community. Our mountainside and the rolling pastures of our farm occupy a peaceful high glen at the end of a beautiful valley. Completely isolated by mountains, this picture postcard valley is still farmed by original settler families. We’re surrounded by thousands of acres of conservancy land, filled with wildflowers, creeks, wildlife, and forest. We’re on a mountainside at 3500 feet, giving us breathtaking views, wonderfully cool summer air and beautiful winter snow. On our home farm we raise organic produce, heritage goats, sheep, pigs, cows, poultry. You’re invited to be part of our farm, to help feed the animals, milk the cows and goats, and experience the wonderful cycles of farm life. We have a fine herd of horses, too, and gorgeous woodland trails for riding. Our magnificent Great Pyrenees dogs will keep you company. Come stay with us in a luxurious cabin. Ride and hike our woods. Share our farm bounty. Pick an armful of wildflowers, glory in a sunset, dream by a crackling fire. When you come to Randall Glen you’ll never want to leave. Once you leave you’ll always want to come back.
One of the things I like best is sharing Randall Glen with our guests. Every day brings joys like: Hunting for eggs and seeing a child’s eyes light up when they hold a newly hatched chick. Pointing out special mountain trails for hiking. Relating mountain lore and settler tales. Taking guests on a hunt for wild berries, herbs, and mushrooms. Teaching a city dweller to milk a cow. Sharing farm fresh harvest and farmhouse foods with our guests. Taking a family on a horseback ride for lunch in a wildflower meadow. Sharing the miracle of birthing baby animals. What else do I love? Seeing the crystal clear sky lit by every star in the universe. A rainbow so close you could touch it. Clouds of butterflies in my path. Waking to the sun lighting up the mountainside. No city sounds, only bird song and the music of a farm. Living in some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. It is such a pleasure to see our guests relax, rejoice, and be renewed in spirit. And it’s a reward to hear, “Thank you for the best vacation we ever had!” I feel lucky every day.
Randall Glen is in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, a premier destination not only for the area’s immense beauty but also for the incredible variety of activities. Nearby Asheville is small enough to be a town but large enough for city vitality. Surprisingly cosmopolitan, it’s home to artists of national stature, boasts a symphony, an excellent art museum, and an Art Deco downtown filled with galleries, boutiques, and fine restaurants. It’s the venue of major concerts and festivals. Summer is lively with drum circles, Dancing on the Green, and outdoor music. Asheville is also the home of the magnificent Biltmore Estate, which rivals the palaces of Europe. The surrounding mountains offer every outdoor activity as well as historic sites, theme parks, steam railways, the Cherokee Reservation, Harrah’s Casino, and even hot springs spas. National parks and the Blue Ridge Parkway give access to millions of acres of unspoiled natural beauty, with trails for hiking, horseback riding, and biking. Sports include whitewater rafting, ziplining, skiing, rock climbing, paintball, golf, fishing, llama trekking—if you can imagine it, you can find it in the Smokies.
