Akademie Street has spoiled me for all other boutique hotels. The service, the facilities and the complementary extras were not just excellent, it was in a different league altogether. Truly exceptional.

If you do not have a good nights sleep at ASBH it is certainly not from the position of Akademie, two streets back from the main road or the fault of the VERY comfortable bed. We stayed two nights in Vreugde cottage. Everything was 'just right' and having no hidden extras added to the stay was very unusual. Can and will recommend ASBH with no hesitation.

We liked absolutely everything. Akademie has earned its reputation for a reason. It was definitely a splurge, as there are plenty of other great hotels that are a bit more affordable, but we left feeling like we'd stayed at a really special place. The decor is gorgeous, the staff super friendly, the breakfast and evening drinks generous, as well as classy touches like a woman coming to play the piano over drinks. Simply wonderful.

This place was exceptional. Its a small guest house in a historic building, walking distance from the main strip in Franschoek. Our room was in the Oortguing building, which is split into two suites. The interior decoration has taken themes from Italian baroque and colonial South Africa, I'm not sure why that works as a combination but it does. The room was particularly beautiful. The service was faultless and friendly. Breakfast was incredible. Would recommend without question.

Incredible attention to detail. The hotel has been put together beautifully with many elegant pieces of furniture creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. All the staff were kind and helpful. A really nice touch was the early evening "aperitivo" - a selection of wines and other drinks and snacks provided in the relaxed lounge area.

The fourth building, Uitsig is a separate, large, luxurious upstairs suite with balcony and lovely views. The fifth building, Twyfeling is a gracious Cape Dutch style house with large living rooms and two large bedroom suites. Uitsig and Twyfeling share a large, heated pool and garden.
